90,000 Syrian Refugees Headed for Turkey
35,000 Syrian refugees are massed on the border with Turkey following renewed warfare in the Syrian civil war.
Another 55,000 are on the way to Turkey according to the Wall Street Journal.
Merkel Like a Fish Out of Water
Like a tuna fish flopping around on a beach with hopes of flopping into water instead of further into the sand, German chancellor Angela Merkel is headed to Turkey in an alleged “Last Ditch” Effort to Stem Refugee Tide.
German chancellor Angela Merkel will fly to Turkey for “last-ditch” talks to revive a plan to cut the number of refugees entering Europe as the worsening situation in Syria triggers a fresh wave of people fleeing the country.
At least 30,000 people were on Sunday massed at A’zaz, a small town 20 kilometres from the border, sleeping in mosques, packed apartments and on the streets, according to two eye witnesses.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has indicated that he may “if necessary” be willing to allow the refugees into Turkey, which already hosts at least 2.5m Syrians. One Turkish official said that the decision would be taken within days, if not hours. Ms Merkel with give a press conference on Monday with Ahmet Davutoglu, Turkish prime minister.
While pressure from the EU in exchange for €3bn in aid has led to some changes, European diplomats are pushing for more action. The number of migrants arriving in Greece has remained resolutely high, at nearly 70,000 in January.
“This is a last-ditch effort by the chancellor to push Turkey to get serious about the plan,” said a senior EU diplomat.
€3 Billion Wasted
The EU gave €3 billion to Turkey to stem the refugee tide. As I said many months ago, that plan was doomed from the outset.
Had the EU given Greece €3 billion to build a fence coupled with an Australian-like plan to send back all boats headed for Greece and Italy, the EU would have at least gotten something for their money.
Merkel is largely to blame for this mess with her “open arms welcome” to refugees. The US is to blame for backing Al Qaeda alleged “moderate” rebels increasing the carnage in the Syrian civil war. Of course, the US is to blame for making a mess in Iraq that led to the creation of ISIS.
There’s so much political stupidity circulating that it’s hard to know where to start or end. Last week, a Syrian cease-fire peace effort fell apart because Turkey would not let the Kurds sit at the table.
As a result of renewed fighting, close to 100,000 more refugees are at the border of Turkey hoping to get to Germany.
Kiss Merkel’s “Last Ditch” effort a failure. It’s doomed from the start.

Syria, with help from Russia, Iran and Lebanon (Hezbollah) is on the verge of freeing Syria’s largest city, Aleppo, from insurgents. Once complete, retaking the rest of Syria – minus Kurdish areas – will only be a matter of time and refugees can now begin returning to Syria to rebuild. That will prove difficult without market reforms with or without foreign aid. I have also read reports that Turkey stole vast quantities of machinery and hardware from Aleppo factories.
Reports have it that Kerry has given up hope of ousting Assad – good. There has been some noise lately about Turkey invading Syria and Saudi Arabia being willing to send troops. I suspect this is just to provoke Putin or get him to the bargaining table. Hopefully, Putin will ignore them. Peace may soon be at hand.
Paul Morphy said:
I wonder if Turkey can possibly manipulate a bail-in for themselves to cover expenses. They
bully around some banks in Cyprus and get a clawback of depositor assets, whereby the said depositors just happen to be Russian oligarchs.
They could claim it as war reparations and Kerry could stand by nodding his head in agreement as the Turks feign their outrage at the paltry amount they’ve been permitted to steal.
Diogenes of Sinope said:
Deep conspiracy model :
1.) Germany threatens to end Turkish EU admission process
2.) Turkey threatens to inundate Cyprus with flood of refugees
3.) Cyprus bullies banks into new round of bail-ins with asset seizures beginning immediately
4.) Russian oligarchs discover their accounts are the only source of bail-in seizures
5.) US declares seized assets are really just war reparations and “offers” Cypress to stem refugee flood with US naval blockade of the island nation
6.) Putin scolds oligarchs for their offshoring of capital, promises them a share of the Middle East booty soon to be under Russo-Iranian control
7.) Kerry declares peace is now at hand and it was only possible because “justice was done” to all parties involved
8.) EU is flooded with Turks, er, um,
“Europeans of Turkish descent” as peace gets celebrated across The Continent
9.) Draghi and ECB ministers gather to discuss possibility of becoming market makers for, um, well “war reparations”
9.) Dark pools begin forming, funded with newly thawed capital from frozen Iranian assets
Turkey/Erdogan will do everything possible to stop Syria’s Assad from destroying the rebels (“moderate” or otherwise). Thus dont be surprise if Turkey starts an invasion or cause other activities to prolong the survival of the rebels (“moderate” or otherwise).
When are Germany’s voters going to wake up and toss out Frau Merkel?
Because of the propaganda spewed forth by the media.
Was there for ten days (Nov 2015) – every professional person I spoke to were intent on saying it was a good thing as they are well educated and would integrate well.
I asked them whether they know the difference between an economic refugee or a humanitarian refugee. They said they do – but these ‘were humanitarian refugees’ – and ‘it made no difference at the end of the day’.
Asked them whether they were aware of the problems in Sweden – all were unaware of any problems in Sweden!
In the main majority were socialists – praise the state and the system. Raise the fact that they are still paying a tax for the integration of East Germany and they just shrug their shoulders – yes we do and yes we will (to any other taxes raised for refugees).
My mind was fried after the seventh night.
Holy Merckerel! Something is fishy about her trip to Turkey…

Time to bring back the walls, the guard towers, the border dogs and the trip wires. Merkel sold her national pride to the highest bidder years ago. She belongs in Brussels, not Germany. The Deutsche leute better wake the F up. If Merkel gets her way they’ll be a minority in their own country in 5 years or less. The Deutsche volk will be trading in their lederhosen for burqas.
It’s worse than you could possibly imagine. Groups of aimless idle youths hanging around everywhere in Munich. My female relatives scared to walk on street alone.
On train the other day had a conversation ( in English ) with 3 men in their early 30s from Africa. After some pleasentries….
Me: ‘how long before you think you can get work permits ?’
They: blank looks
Me: ‘you must be excited about all the possibilities to get work in Germany, there are many opportunities to make money here’
They: ‘oh yes we are excited to make money here’
Me: ‘What work did you do back home ?’
Refugee 1: Army
Refugee 2: School
Refugee 3: Basketball & Bouncer
Me: ‘ what sort of work do you want to do here ?’
They: Blank Looks, (finally after some prodding from me ) “Security Guard !”
My conclusion is they honestly believe they never have to work again and they can mooch off the German taxpayer forever. They all had wives and young children back home.
Says a lot for the socialist system doesn’t it.
Yeah, sort of like the one we have here in America. The only difference is that the Germans don’t open up their K-12 schools to illegal foreigners.
What illegal foreigners? All refugees accepted – regardless.
Frau Merkel – regime change is coming.
Do the Aficans get to vote in the New Germany?
Last year the flood or refugees to Europe was disastrous, this year it has started of 10 times as bad.
The Socialists in Europe have started to become more radicalized, by turning into either Left-wing radicals (Communism), or Right-wing radicals (Fascism). Communism and Fascism is Socialism, with one difference: Communism is International Socialism and Fascism is National Socialism.
The middle class is still voting for traditional democratic parties, but when the pain reaches them too, they will turn to the two radical parties as well.
The elite in Europe is a small minority and they will be forced to join the majority in their respective nations for their own survival at some point.
If we don’t learn from history we are doomed to repeat history. But it works the other way to: We have learned from history that we can repeat history by making the same mistakes.
Funding refugee camps in Turkey, and no welcome, just repatriation to camp, was the only workable solution.
Politicians are like central banks, they buy their own story with the money of others and spend their time trying to sell and enforce it.
Sometimes they get it so wrong that the population does not accept, in spite of every effort to persuade.
Merkel, people do not like who you have invited to their country, they do not like you for having invited them. The EU clique has shown it is disconnected and empty of basic values. For this you will be destroyed, the question is if it will be by your destruction of your own society or its destruction of you beforehand.
Merkel, you and your associates are not fit to govern.
how about some of the catholics who said don’t use condoms to Africa 30 years ago take some responsibility.
