Government officials in the Transcarpathian region of Western Ukraine sent an ultimatum today to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, and Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Vladimir Groisman.
Transcarpathia (Zakarpattia) demands autonomy from Kiev citing “irresponsible policies” of the Ukrainian leadership in the last 25 years leading to the “utter devastation and plunder of Transcarpathia“.

The deputies of the regional council of Transcarpathia demanded from the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Vladimir Groisman grant autonomy to the region. The statement to politicians Kiev MPs adopted at the plenary session, according to the publication Zakarpattya.net.ua.
“We demand to recognize Transcarpathia special self-governing administrative territory, the necessary amendments to the Constitution of the country must be made without delay”, – the document says.
According to deputies, the Ukrainian industry is literally “is” catastrophically impoverished people, the economy is on the verge of default, “the ideals of the Maidan cynically rejected.” “Last chance to save the situation – immediately authorize a real, not declarative financial and administrative independence of the local authorities”, – underline the parliamentarians.
According to them, the result of “irresponsible policies” of the Ukrainian leadership in the last 25 years has been “utter devastation and plunder of Transcarpathia”.
Chairman of the Transcarpathian Oblast Council Michael Rivis edition Depo.Zakarpate said that the parliamentarians have decided to recall their appeal Poroshenko and Yatsenyuk on their own promises of decentralization, devolution.
Publication UNN, citing the press service of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) in the Transcarpathian region reports that the Secret Service has already begun testing the treatment Transcarpathian deputies. “According to its results will be taken as defined by the current legislation of Ukraine”, – noted in the department.
December 7 SBU Directorate for the Transcarpathian region start criminal proceedings on the fact of calls published on Facebook to join the “Ruthenian people’s army” to liberate the region. December 6 employees of the SBU and the Ukrainian nationalists tried to disrupt the meeting with activists of the Transcarpathian deputies of Parliament of the Czech Republic and the European Parliament in the city of Svaliava.
In December 1991, held in Transcarpathia regional referendum. Despite the fact that the majority of voters – 78 percent – were in favor of granting the region autonomy rights, Kiev Transcarpathia this status is not granted.
Interpretation of Events
The obvious interpretation is Transcarpathia is just plain fed up. Who isn’t these days?!
I asked reader Jacob Dreizin, a US citizen who speaks Russian and reads Ukrainian what it all means. Dreizin explains the Ukrainian regions collect taxes and send the money to Kiev. Kiev siphons off most of the money for war and various corrupt activities, and returns only a small portion to the regions.
Transcarpathia has had enough of this process and wants to collect all the taxes itself, sending a tiny bit to Kiev. Obviously this will not go over very well with Kiev.
In that regard, Dreizin says part of the above translation reads as if the Ukraine Secret Service is cooperating with Transcarpathia. Instead, the Secret Service is evaluating the autonomy request with an eye towards criminal charges.
However, this idea will go over big with other regions of Ukraine who are equally fed up with their tax dollars being wasted.
“This is not like the USA where states cooperate in trade. The regions of Ukraine are more like individual fiefdoms,” said Dreizin.
Ukraine Regional Map
Transcarpathia is the smuggling center for Ukraine over mountainous dirt roads from Hungary and Slovakia. Cheap cigarettes are one of the key items according to Dreizin.
Several hundred thousand citizens in Transcarpathia hold passports to the neighboring countries. Ukraine has limited ability to crack down should these people take to the streets.
It will not send in the tanks as it did in the East.
Auspicious Timing
Timing of today’s announcement is fresh on the heels of a Dutch referendum in which approximately 64% of Dutch voters thumbed their noses in rebuke of the government which campaigned in favor of the EU-Ukraine association supported by the rest of the EU.
The Netherlands is the last holdout.
“I don’t believe the Dutch will say no, because it would open the door to a big continental crisis,” said self-admitted liar and EC president Jean-Claude Juncker.
ZeroHedge has an excellent writeup using Juncker’s own words Dutch Referendum May Have Unleashed European “Continental Crisis”.
Continental Crisis
As long as we are discussing the prospects of a “Continental Crisis” let’s throw the breakup of Ukraine into the mix along with the breakup of Spain, and Brexit.
Note that Russian president Vladimir Putin no longer needs to send troops to Ukraine. Instead, Putin can sit back and watch Ukraine self-destruct making any agreement between Ukraine and the EU meaningless.
Crimea. Forget about it. It’s now part of Russia.

It is time to split the country up. About 25 years overdue.

” Ruthenian people’s army ”
Sounds like another partner for Putin’s May 9 Soviet victory parade.

I find it interesting that politicians want to mix all ethnic and cultural groups together and expect everyone to get along. However history has proven that regions will separate according to cultural and ethnic groups. Thus our grandparents started the chaos in the Middle East by forming countries as well as in Africa. Ukraine is just trying to do the same thing. Turkey and Iraq are experiencing the same problems. Those who want to separate are called racists and insurgents.
Seenitallbefore – agreed, ethnic and cultural groups want to be together.
My kids tell me that they see the very same thing in school, ethnic and cultural groups forming cliques. They may be nice to each other in the classroom, but at lunch the groups meet up according to their ethnic and cultural groups.
The elite (especially now in Europe) are FORCING multiculturalism on countries. If they don’t go along, they are labelled racists or bigots, all because they want to protect their cultures. Of course, the elite do this because it benefits them. Oh, they might say they’re doing it out of compassion, but let’s get real – when have they been compassionate in the past? If things are forced on countries, there is always a reason: either to create fighting and chaos (making it easier to rob from these countries) or it benefits multinational corporations.
I say give them all their own country (Israel, Palestine, Kurds, Christians, Sunnis, Shiites, etc.) Make sure they each have their fair share of water and some good land, and leave them the hell alone.
Along with the most recent proposals to centralize migrant management and distribution , the European commission has promised ‘an EU Action Plan on Integration’ .
Don’t f*** with European Values maaan , the forces of harmony are gathering even as we speak , and the compassionate social flows disperse indiscriminately amongst the lesser equals for so it is said .
We are all racists so we need to get over it in the eyes of politicians. If you really want to lose your frined work in the equal opportunity field. I had no choice and worked in Equal Opportunity and I used to teach it at a college level. What has it taught me, we are not racist but we make friends and hang out with people we have something in common with. Let me explain a little further and I am not trying to be sarcastic.
Who do you hang out with? Who are your friends? Is America a melting pot so many politicians state that we are?
First there is no such thing as a melting pot and all you have to do is look around in every major city in the USA or for that matter in the world. You and I and everyone else for that matter in the world, make friends and hang out with like minded people, and color has nothing to do with it. Many of you may work with many different people but at the end of the day most of you head home and never speak to many of your co-workers after it is time to go home. This is how we are and no matter what a politician states about the USA, or for that matter any country, you will find cities the same way. You have China town, Italian town, Korean town, Jewish town, and well I think you will get the idea. Even in Germany the northern German dislike the Bavarians. Shiite Muslims hate Sunnis. I could go on and on.
You will not see our politician hanging out with the pleebs, you will not see the rich hanging out with the poor and hell you will not even see people with different languages and culture hanging out together. So all of us are racists in a politicians mind. Notice how Congress passed Obamacare and then created their own form of healthcare because they stated openly they would not use the program for themselves.
Politicians play everyone of us and we are so stupid we allow them too. They steal from you and I and we vote for them, just look at Hillary!!!
We will never be able to truly be multi-cultural it simply does not work period.
Mish – Turkey also wants to see Kherson region break away from Ukraine and become “Tatar” i.e. Turkish:

Transcarpathian independence is supported by the Hungarian government. The Hungarians believe that Transcarpathia is one of their lost regions and should be annexed to restore Greater Hungary.
Of course, they will have to get rid of the non-Hungarians who live there.
This will be interesting…
So all Ukrainians will wear ‘Je suis Transcarpathian’ T-shirts in the hope that EU annexes the whole country ? I mean Brussels seems to have some sort of claim on Ukraine somewhere , so if the Ukrainians vote for independence from Ukraine they get to be part of Belgium … do the Belgians know this yet , or even care ?
On a serious note though , I imagine a lot of Ukrainians are wondering what their lot is now , what is up with EU protocol . You imagine the weight that is going to come down on Holland’s politicians over this… they are going to be getting a few calls from somewhere … a region of 300 mn or so people signs up to integrate a neighbouring country , part of a western project that has gone on for decades , and a handful of Dutch voters block it for a waffle (I am being sarcastic of course , but there will be some quite powerful people thinking just that ) .
Ukraine pursued an effective scorched earth defense in East Ukraine and Crimea. East Ukraine has no functional factories, mines nor universities when before the Russian invasion it was the heart of Russian military, space, and nuclear manufacturing. East Ukraine has no banks, no electricity, no schools, no government services. One million Russians fled from East Ukraine to Russia. Crimea has no water, no food, no electricity, no coal, and no oil. Crimeans live in small community tents to keep warm. Expect Ukraine to scorch Transcarpathia. The easy way may be to move in and execute every one of the hundred thousands of smugglers with passports. Russia perpetrated holodomor and scorched earth on Ukraine. Payback is remorseless.
“East Ukraine has no banks, no electricity, no schools, no government services”
Yeah, sure, it’s Somalia, or Congo perhaps. You are one rare moron. Assuming that by “East Ukraine” you mean the Donbass (not that you understand the difference), I am reading articles all the time about the schools and what the kids are being taught now that they are no longer part of Ukraine. And pensions are paid, banks are using rubles and dollars. And there is certainly enough electricity to power the mines which still supply Ukraine with most of its coal. Where do you get your “facts”? Do you think you create reality by just typing on a keyboard? You are like God or something?
“Crimea has no water, no food, no electricity, no coal, and no oil. Crimeans live in small community tents to keep warm.”
Where are you reading this? You’ve got one wild imagination. 2.3 million people living in “small community tents”? “No food”, yet five million tourists visited last summer? Even the Ukrainian propaganda sites don’t make such wacky claims.
“Russia perpetrated holodomor and scorched earth on Ukraine. Payback is remorseless.”
Transcarpathia is nowhere near Russia, and has nothing to do with Russia at this point in its history.
You are an idiot.
Read the history of the Ukraine:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukraine
It is hard to think of another country that has been so divided. It’s history is dominated by it’s neighbors Russia, Poland and Turkey trying to control. In ww2 the population was divided between nationalists, people in the west aligned with Germany, and people in the east aligned with Russia. Modern Ukraine does not seem to have changed very much. What a mess.
I love Ukraine. It’s the greatest place. They need to throw out all the politicians and rewrite the laws so they make sense and are fair to people. Forget about counting on the EU, USA or Russia. They need to determine their own fate.
