Earlier today, Prime Minister David Cameron announced his resignation effective Wednesday.
On Wednesday evening, Theresa May will become the UK’s next prime evening without a single vote being cast.
Under UK parliamentary rules there is normally a vote by party members on the top two candidates.
However, UK Energy Minister Andrea Leadsom pulled out of the race following her controversial comments that motherhood made her a better candidate than May.
No Second Referendum, No Back Door Reentry
Cameron Resigns Wednesday
CNN reports David Cameron to Resign Wednesday as Theresa May to become British PM.
British Prime Minister David Cameron is to resign Wednesday, paving the way for Home Secretary Theresa May to take the reins.
May was officially named Conservative Party leader and successor to Cameron “with immediate effect” Monday, said Graham Brady, chair of the 1922 Committee, a collection of Conservative members of Parliament key to electing the party leader. She will replace Cameron on Wednesday evening.
In remarks shortly after her leadership was affirmed, May said her priorities will be to administer Britain’s exit from the European Union, a move approved by voters last month, to unite the country and to create a “strong, new, positive vision for the future,” not just for the privileged few, but for everyone.
On Monday, May’s only remaining rival to replace Cameron — Energy Minister Andrea Leadsom — pulled out of the race following controversy over comments she made about motherhood and leadership.
“Obviously, with these changes, we now don’t need to have a prolonged period of transition. And so tomorrow I will chair my last Cabinet meeting. On Wednesday I will attend the House of Commons for Prime Minister’s questions,” Cameron told reporters Monday outside 10 Downing Street.
“And then after that I expect to go to the palace and offer my resignation. So we will have a new prime minister in that building behind me by Wednesday evening.”
Remainers Disappointed
May’s comments about no more referendums and no back door reentry will play quite well with those in favor of Brexit.
No More Referendum Debate
Calls for another referendum will fall on deaf ears even though a Petition calling for second EU referendum topped three million signatures as of June 26.
In an amusing twist of irony, that petition was started by William Oliver Healey, an English Democrats activist and Leave campaigner, who was concerned the Remain camp would win.
Government petitions which reach over 100,000 signatures must be considered for debate in parliament.
By June 29, Petition Signatures Topped 4 Million. Remain protesters came up with a catchy ditty to the tune of “Hey Jude” Replacing those words with “EU”
Hey Jude, Unbrex My Heart
Excellent Start to Brexit Negotiations
Theresa May will have nothing to do with another referendum.
Moreover, chancellor George Osborne, most likely ex-chancellor, took a necessary step of smacking EU mules in the head with a corporate tax cut.
Merkel insists negotiations will not start until the UK formally files article 50 to withdraw from the EU. However, it’s clear the negotiations have indeed started, and those negotiations are off to an excellent start.

Gotta say I’m enjoying this. The EU squirming is delicious and who knew the Brits would say, “Right then, vote is done, it’s Brexit mates, let’s get on with it then. ” , and start, you know, leaving.
My respect and admiration for the British system and her people is soaring. Well done.
Me too.
To help the UK celebrate her freedom from the EU I’m purchasing all the UK sourced items I can.
Moving forward on Brexit? May is not going to get an ipod filled with Obama speeches from the White House.
Damn – Maybe she needs to rethink her positions.
Hey if you see Obama coming, run May, run!!!!!!!!!
I WAS JUST KIDDING YOU MISH BECAUSE PEOPLE DON T CARE ABOUT UK ITS FOOD AND ITS FOG WHAT PEOPLE WANT IS TO INVEST IN ASIA OR THE USA AH AH …

Congratulations to the British. Brexit is the impetus needed to strike a lethal blow to end EU. It took USSR 70 years to finally wise up and end that monstrosity. It only took England 40 years. That is an improvement. I wonder how long it will take us Americans to come to our senses. After all, how long have the Clintons been “in power?” And are we to think that this country will be any better off with a liar as POTUS? Maybe we should steal a few plays out of the Brits playbook…or did they learn something in 1776 from us?
I don’t think the point of “Breaking”is to strike a lethal blow at anything…at least I hope its not.
I would like to think Brexiting is about FREEDOM….as opposed to FreeDUMB.
We shall see of course as indeed Frau Merkel already has her Brexit and “throwing down an Article 50” might as well be throwing up another TRILLION eurobux.
Again…outside of the very profound security issues at stake I still fail to see anything of significance to the American economy relative to this matter though. The US economy has collapsed of its own accord and not because of anything going on in Europa Dopa.
All the “negotiation issues” are really a fait accompli (for both UK and EU). Lots of silly temper tantrums and bad acting for the TV cameras, but geography and telecommunications limit practical options. EU countries will grant England the same trade / travel terms as Switzerland and England will accept those same terms — they don’t really have a choice.
Cameron already pointed out that no British PM will be legitimate if he/she ignores the Brexit referendum (May doesn’t really have a choice there either). Best case, a re-do would produce a lot more anger, and it would still be really close.
They will not get a mandate to dissolve UK Parliament in favor of Brussels, and none of the “Bremain” camp has been honest enough to say the Queen would get displaced (removed?) as head of state.
EU sanctions against England, if they get officially implemented, will be less effective than sanctions against Russia. The former CEO of French oil giant Total was killed in a plane crash in Russia less than a year after the EU imposed sanctions, while Germany continued buying natural gas from Gazprom. Putin had a good laugh, but focused his attention on better markets in Asia.
England has been a country for 500+ years. The EU is not a country at all, it is a trade bloc run by infants. When the you-know-what hits the fan, people seek safety in what has worked for centuries.
If May has any strategy skills at all, she will tell the EU to cool off — and focus her attentions on increased trade with Commonwealth countries, Asia, Latin America, Africa, etc.
There’s one problem with the Brexit move forward narrative. It’s the older generation on both sides of the pension line that voted leave. The younger generation, particularly the well-educated, want to remain. If youth are the future, it’s not a move forward.
Either way the pensions are unsustainable…
And the young Remain are stupid and brainwashed.
If the allegedly well-educated young were actually chomping at the bit to take on other people’s debts — perhaps the pensions debts could be transferred to them.
People who can’t do math are not well educated.
I suspect the youngsters in webej’s imagination were actually saying they want to be drinking buddies with JC Juncker — not the same thing.
Webji, did you say well educated, or well indoctrinated?
Webej– “The younger generation, particularly the well-educated, want to remain”
Not true. That is just your individual opinion. It is not supported by actual polls or by common sense.
Anyone who is actually well-educated would not make unfounded assertions. They would want to go where the jobs and opportunities are. And they would run away from being enslaved by an older generation’s debts.
Youth want to create their own future, not pay for someone else’s past. Have you seen the old farts shuffling around EU headquarters?
Do you actually think JC Juncker is “youth”? Angela Merkel? Hollande? All three were born in 1954… That means they are at least 62 years old for the well-educated who can do math. People who can do math also know the EU is bankrupt, and the debts are now too big even for Germany to bail out.
No educated person of any age wants to join a bankrupt club.
The EU cannot be bankrupt since it does not have a balance sheet. In fact, the UK is one of the northern European countries with the greatest pension, public, and especially private debt funding issues. These will not be mitigated by Brexit.
One who believes in Sharia law — well, isn’t that ironic?
Theresa May strikes me as a Paul Ryan in a skirt. A wolf in sheep’s clothing. Pure establishment. Everytime Ryan accuses Trump of not being conservative enough I LMAO. Ryan basically promotes open borders, higher debt ceilings and budgets, TPP, illegal wars and never saw a bankster that he didn’t love. And he accuses Trump of being anti-conservative. ha. Everyday is becoming opposite day in America. And the media is MIA when it comes time to call these lying corrupted politicians out. A woman who put the nation at severe national security risk may move into the White House and awarded the highest security clearance in the land. Stop the planet!!! I want off!!!
It is not correct to say “Under UK parliamentary rules there is normally a vote by party members on the top two candidates” (per the third paragraph),
Parliament has no rules concerned elections of party leaders: all the rules are set by the political parties themselves. The prime minister is appointed (by the Queen) and a requirement to remain prime minister is enjoying the confidence of Parliament, in particular being able to command sufficient votes there to pass legislation.
Also, there was a vote (contrary to the second paragraph) of the Conservative Parliamentary party (i.e. amongst Conservative Party MPs) and Mrs May won that decisively. Party rules stated that the top two candidates from that vote are then on a ballot of all party members but of course with Mrs Leadsome’s withdrawal from the contest, that stage of selection was not possible on this occassion.
I couldn’t care less about British politics. I get all the entertainment I need from American politics. No need to go across the pond to laugh at political buffoons when we have a corner on that market.
the petition was already debated in parliament and rejected
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/jul/09/government-dashes-hopes-of-second-eu-referendum-in-e-petition-response
correction: this has been reopened for debate in parliament. Doubt anything will come from it tho
That petition has already been shown to be rife with fraudulent votes/submissions. It’s meaningless.
there were 77000 signatures removed i.e. 2% and before you have a go at me i voted leave
No reneging eh. “As Call Me Dave” famously said.” No Ifs No Buts ” when he said he was going to tighten Immigration in 2011, never seen so much immigration into this country since .Cant See Teresa being any different, same masters.
Quote from his actual speech.
“And I believe that will mean net migration to this country will be in the order of tens of thousands each year, not the hundreds of thousands every year that we have seen over the last decade.
Yes, Britain will always be open to the best and brightest from around the world and those fleeing persecution.
But with us, our borders will be under control and immigration will be at levels our country can manage.
No ifs. No buts. ”
……………
“ONS reported that the estimated net long-term migration into the UK was 298,000 in the year ending September 2014, this is an increase from the previous year estimate of 210,000. However, it is significantly below the peak of 320,000 in the year ending June 2005.
It was approximated that 624,000 people immigrated to the UK, in the year ending September 2014. A significant increase when compared to the 530,000 figure from the preceding 12 months. There were increases of non-EU citizens (49,000 increase totalling 292,000) and EU (non- British) citizens (43,000 increase totalling 251,000).”
Etc.etc.
So Brexit means Brexit, today, but tomorrow, well who knows!!!
