Congratulations to Congress for the most productive legislation in years, if not decades: House Passes Bill to Overturn ‘Midnight’ Regulations En Masse.
Legislation to allow Congress to repeal in a single vote any rule finalized in the last 60 legislative days of the Obama administration sailed through the House Wednesday, the second time in less than two months.
The GOP-backed Midnight Rule Relief Act, which passed the previous Congress in November, was approved largely along party lines by a vote of 238-184 on the second day of the new Congress, despite Democratic opposition.
If passed by the Senate and signed by President-elect Donald Trump, the legislation would amend the Congressional Review Act to allow lawmakers to bundle together multiple rules and overturn them en masse with a joint resolution of disapproval.
The White House has already threatened to veto the bill if it were to make it to President Obama’s desk before he leaves office.
Whiners Attack Legislation
The American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC), which claims to represent a network of more than 250,000 businesses, sent a letter to members of the House on Wednesday urging them to oppose this “anti-regulatory” measure.
“This would be like taking a chainsaw into surgery,” David Levine, ASBC’s CEO and co-founder, said in a statement.
Reality
Obama brought this upon himself with a flurry of last minute nonsense. It’s easier to start all over than get bogged down in debate as to what small percent of Obama-sponsored rules might actually make any sense.
Mike “Mish” Shedlock
Obama is just engaged in a scorched earth policy at this point.
Doesn’t seem like he really cared about US values at all during his 8 year reign — but he isn’t even pretending to care about US taxpayers anymore.
Good riddance to a horrible president.
Like an angry evicted renter who intentionally destroys the property before he leaves, smashing the walls, pouring concrete down the drains.
I was thinking they should repeal every law, every rule and every reg going back 8 years. Hell, what have they done in 40 years that anyone really needs?
Trump’s first executive order should state all EOs for the past 8 years are null and void.
Not all at once. Some are actually useful, usually the ones carried on from prez to prez and often just updated.
Actual useful laws and regs were, between Jefferson and Moses, pretty much exhaustively enumerated a long, long time ago.
I look forward to HUGE numbers of executive orders being gradually analyzed and rescinded and certainly not just those from Obama.
Should I be frightened? I mean without these absolutely necessary rules and regulations in force protecting me from completely unknown threats…I feel so…naked. Are they opening the door to Russia to expose more damning FACTS?
Earlier today FOX news had a panel discussion about “Russian hacking.” They wondered if Trump will change his tune towards Putin after he is briefed by intel. My first thought was… he very well could crawfish on Russia…. he has already crawfished on campaign promises.
There was no Russian hacking. No one is going to believe that rubbish story, and I refuse to click on a stupid Fox link to find out what moronic propaganda they came up with this time.
The animosity toward Russia is all about Obama’s ego, and how Putin got the better of him over and over and over again. No one else cares.
China does more hacking than the Russians.
Mexico interferes in US elections more than any other nation on Earth.
Mexico also aids and abets il-legal immigration into the USA. This is an Act of War.
Trump has already crawfished on deporting all illegal aliens… which is what he promised in his famous Arizona immigration speech/rally. Last I heard him say, he wanted to either deport violent criminal aliens or imprison them here [which would further burden US taxpayers.] If Trump does not send ALL illegal aliens back, he will have defacto declared the USA a “sanctuary city.”
@atossa — much easier (and less cost to the US taxpayer) to impose a withholding tax on Western Union transfers to Latin America.
If they can’t send money “back home” (much of their reason for illegal immigration), and they can’t put the money in a bank account — they must return of their own, or get robbed and then return.
If Jerry Brown wants to steal from CA tree huggers to delay the inevitable, that’s his problem. If the rest of the country can’t tell a CA drivers license carried by a US citizen from an illegal immigrant — neither will be accepted outside California. The tree huggers will pay for that too.
California can whine all they want — immigration is a federal matter, not a state matter. Its in the US Constitution; its been there since 1789. California “citizenship” is not US citizenship — they won’t get Congressional seats, they won’t get revenue sharing, but they will get all the illegal immigrant costs until they break.
See the history of Proposition 6 — “free” education from liberals versus their own unlimited property taxes. They lost.
Federal tax withholding on Western Union transfers (and other money transfer services) to Latin America is the legal and low cost way to make illegal immigrants go home on their own dime.
And a withholding tax doesn’t impact legal immigrants, nor does it require any changes to existing law.
@ Fred
That might help in non-border states.
Have you been to South Texas lately? It is defacto Mexico.
My hometown here in North Texas is now defacto Mexico.
The Texas border is a sieve.
Whites are now the minority population in Texas.
Either Trump takes radical action NOW to deport all illegal aliens and makes radical immigration reforms… or the rest of the USA will become third world.
@atossa — I am not advocating for or against deportation… just saying its expensive and easier said than done.
I am not saying a Western Union withholding tax in California (or just border states) — it should be applied in all 50 states. That is the law.
Illegal immigrants can’t open bank accounts (already). They would face withholding taxes on western union money grams (on all money transfers). And enforcement of existing labor codes — something the little crook currently in the White House has sabotaged without getting impeached. Also note that US citizens who leave water bottles and such to help illegals are subject to prosecution under existing laws, even if Obozo failed to do his job.
Enforce the existing laws — cut off their income, their ability to wire money “home”, and the illegal protection from a white house crook… a lot of them would go home on their own.
I don’t think illegal immigrants are risking their lives (from walking in heat, etc) for no reason. If you raise the price of breaking the law, and lower the benefits of getting away with it — a lot of the problem goes away on its own.
Beyond that, I am open to further enforcement and expulsion of illegals. But you have to seal up the border first, or you are just paying billions in US taxdollars to send illegals on round trips.
Back in the 1980s, Reagan gave anmesty to millions of illegal aliens while promising to seal of the border. Those promises never came to pass… the illegal alien problem was just kicked down the road.
Today, it is now or never. After witnessing Trump already crawfish on his earlier campaign promises to deport all illegal aliens… it appears it be never.
Trump’s crawfishing will turn his “make America great again” into Jeremiah 51:9 “we would have healed Babylon, but she cannot be healed.”
“China does more hacking than the Russians.”
How would you know?
And why would you care?
Or, more to the point, why _should_ you care?
If a bunch of tax feeders are sneaking around in the dark, plotting things they don’t want to disclose to those they supposedly “represent,” thank goodness the Chinese and Russians are at least attempting to be nice to You and me, by exposing some of the travesties.
The irony for me is… back last February I posted on another forum that I voted for Trump in the GOP primary because it was the next best thing to voting for Putin. Not because either of them are great leaders… but because both of them shake up and wake up the sheep. Then I related how a poll worker repeatedly harassed me when I tried to vote. Looking back, it all was quite prophetic.
Putin got the better or Obama for one main reason.
Putin put Russian interests first. For that reason he had clear goals & objectives of doing what was was considered good for Russia and working against what wasn’t.
Obama stood for what? As an outsider I was always confused as to what Obama was about & stood for. No doubt about Putin.
Atossa – Trump IS NOT THE PRESIDENT YET! Geez, give him a chance to get his coat off!
Trump has already verbally crawfished on campaign promises. Maybe he is trying to confound his enemies [in addition to his supporters]… but I doubt it.
May be good.
May not be?
Why not look at each one….even OBAMA! might have slipped a good one in there somewhere in last 60 days….?
Come now, Billy, it’s much too late to think common sense is ever going to be applied in Washington. To the victors go the spoils!
You have no common sense.
The sensible thing to do is play the odds. What are the odds any non-wasteful regulations were passed in the last 20 years? Close to zero. Yet Billy Bob proposes millions of dollars be wasted reviewing every piece enacted in the last 60 days in case there might be a proverbial needle in a haystack.
Nope not “millions of dollars”. But what’s a couple…?…:-)
Sounds like most of the businesses represented by the ASBC aren’t sustainable without crony legislation.
Better to overturn ALL regulations passed in the last 8 (20?) years, but it’s a good start!
The American Sustainable Business Council.
Why would they be anti anti-regulatory? The latest rules added how much cost to businesses?
Cuck cuck cuck……
Think of the costs added to their competitors.
Never heard of that outfit
I suspect a bunch of union left wing yahoos
Obama in his few last days needs to deliver on what the public really wants to know.
What is at Area 51
Who shot JFK
Did we really land on the moon
Any gold in Fort Knox
and last but not lest – what the eff we’re you doing the night Benghazi went down?
Never mind all that… The big news is that on January 20th, Obama will finally do something for American.
They will have to delay sending this bill to the president for signature until after Jan. 20, otherwise it’s a waste of time. I cannot wait for the 8 year Obummer nightmare to be over. Look at what a fool this egomaniac tin-pot president is making of himself (this may seem like an Onion satire, but it’s not):

Dear Sen. McCain and Sen. Graham-nesty:
China does more hacking than the Russians.
Mexico interferes in US elections more than any other nation on Earth.
Mexico also aids and abets il-legal immigration into the USA. This is an Act of War.
I suspect that Obama is beginning to feel as sick as Hillary did on election night. This sort of thing, and undoing obamacare (not that it is perfect) would just about undo his legacy.
I think Trump wants that done out of spite, as he has nothing better to replace it with,…and it would be easier to build on and amend than destroy and start again (I think).

The Donald does have something better to replace Obummer’s crap: Nothing. Much better!
@anne kilroy: are you completely out of your mind? Living in San Francisco?
Obamacare is a fraud and a disaster. Repealing it and replacing it with nothing would be a huge improvement (repealing is not a fix, its just less bad).
Obamacare doesn’t hire any doctors or nurses or provide anything that could be considered care. It actually pushed a number of doctors to retire early. It is a fraud. Only a lying con artist would claim otherwise. No care was provided at all. Stop the lying.
And at this point, even Obozo’s supporters are admitting Obamacare is not affordable. 30% premium hikes, plus doubling or tripling of deductibles? You now pay a lot more for “insurance”, and then you have to pay a lot more for care (from fewer doctors) to cover your deductible. Are you completely clueless?
Seriously Anne. I don’t care if this upsets you. I hope it does. Whine and cry about your trigger words until you can’t cry anymore. Obamacare is a disaster, and everyone is fed up of that loser in the White House trying to claim anything else. If you want people to respect you, stop trying to bullsh!t us. Your lying is offensive.
Plan on getting far less respectful treatment, BOTH online and in person, if you persist in offending taxpaying Americans.
Who’s paying for The Wall?
Eazy-peezy: $500 for every semitruck crossing the border. $250 for every van. $100 for every pickemup truck. $50 per car. And $25 per person in every vehicle AND those walking.
Boom. Millions upon millions available for the corrugated steel panels ready to go!
(And, it’ll cut way back on traffic…..)
Trump found a free source for the Wall building materials: Over 60 million democrat voters shit a brick in November.
The Donald is also getting offers for free labor:

“Executive orders are EVIDENCE that there is STILL a form of the same Martial law rule over America today as was introduced by LINCOLN when he issued the very FIRST executive order OUTSIDE of the US Constitution, and the executive orders that have continued to INCREASE over the years since then are evidence of the perpetuation of an UN-Constitutional TYRANNY that has lasted over 135 years”. Elliott Germain.
The constitution and the bill of rights are ALL that stands in the way of a bunch of thugs who are determined to grind you into dust.
I need to verify that. Which specific order by Abe are you referring to?
Not familiar with Sleeksters argument — but Lincoln’s suspension of habeas corpus was questionable at best. Even Lincoln thought his decision would not survive a court challenge — his only “defense” was that the union (and Constitution) would also collapse if he didn’t violate the Constitution.
Lincoln “re-instated” habeas corpus before most people heard about his order — and rather importantly before anyone had a chance to challenge it in court. If someone had challenged him (after reinstatement), a court would likely have ruled (especially during wartime) that the plaintiff lacked standing; that is, no plaintiff had been harmed by an executive order that wasn’t actually enforced.
Confederate soldiers were “sort of” legally not Americans — having committed treason and/or having succeeded from the union… leaving their Constitutional Rights in legal limbo. And a court never reviewed the matter, so it remains in legal limbo.
But failure to enforce a Constitutional Right in court, especially one clearly labeled as “inalienable” in ink, does not mean that future presidents (after Lincoln) somehow could pick and choose which rights they felt like honoring. It only meant that one president decided not to respect those rights, and no one challenged him in court.
George W Bush was big into “signing letters”, claiming that he was signing something into law (making it legally binding for everyone under the law including himself) — but schizophrenically also claiming that the executive office wasn’t bound by laws that applied to everyone in the US? A very very shaky legal argument that didn’t pass muster with his own attorney general (the first one anyway).
The Constitution says everyone is equal under the law, there are no special privileges for presidents or Congress or anyone else… supposedly. But that has to get enforced by voters… and we the people have been slacking
