Citing a Harris-Harvard poll, The Hill reports Americans Overwhelmingly Oppose Sanctuary Cities.
Here is the infographic but I cannot find the poll questions or the poll methodology.
Close scrutiny shows the word “overwhelmingly” may be quite a bit biased given the above infographic.
There is a huge difference between 80% support for turning over people who commit crimes and “overwhelming” support in general.
The Hill notes “The online survey of 2,148 registered voters was conducted between Feb. 11 and 13. The partisan breakdown is 39 percent Democrat, 30 percent Republican, 27 percent independent and 5 percent other. The Harvard–Harris Poll survey is a collaboration of the Harvard Center for American Political Studies and The Harris Poll.”
OK, where are the exact questions?
As of 12:37 AM on February 22, the HarrisPoll website shows no reference to the sanctuary city poll, but it does link to ten other polls.
The Harvard Center for American Political Studies does not mention the poll either.
cities at Risk of Funding Cuts
Reuters reports Top 10 U.S. sanctuary cities face roughly $2.27 billion in cuts by Trump policy.
U.S. President Donald Trump’s attempt to strip municipalities of federal dollars for shielding illegal immigrants threatens $2.27 billion in annual funds for the nation’s 10 largest cities, a Reuters analysis of federal grants found.
While Trump has the authority to cut some kinds of funding to the cities, cuts to other federal funding would require an act of Congress.
Reuters analyzed federal grant records to tally the estimated federal funding at risk among the 10 largest cities which totaled an estimated $2.27 billion.
The total amount remains unclear, as federal money can be filtered through state governments or granted directly to social-service organizations or other groups.
Poll or not, Trump is cracking down on illegal immigrants.

It’s those pesky campaign promises. Maybe we need a referendum, to give Trump an excuse to “forget” those promises. Then he could devote himself to important endeavors, like golf.
We had a referendum. It’s called an “election”, and his mandate is clear. Let’s leave ‘golfing’ and screwing around on vacation to his predecessor.
30 days as President, and maybe up to 6 golf outings…as for screwing around, just now I cannot remember who said: “grabbing them by the pus$y”.
He’s done more in 30 days than your race-mongering, hate factory did in 8 years.

Kimo, if your were one higher, you’d be a vegetable. You Dumbocrats don’t give a tinker’s damn about illegals. All you clowns care about is (a) creating dependency to get (b) votes from the won’t-take-care-of-themselves illegals. For you people, government is life’s most noble enterprise. For the rest of it, it’s a gigantic, expensive, and invasive PITA.
Ryan nor McConnel are really friendly to Trump’s push
They just pretend they are. Watch ACA turn into a single payer system… on paper, that is. Trump wont sign it. Then the wat starts between hin and Congress. The bitter Dems and Repubs are all sailing in the same ship.
The important thing to remember is that Republicans like control just as much as Democrats do. Sure they want to repeal and REPLACE because there is no way in HELL that any of them will willingly surrender that amount of control over our people and economy. They will simply suggest that they can do it BETTER.
Freedom is the ability to do whatever we please, as long as it remains within the boundaries of our legal system….a system that has grown massively to encompass virtually EVERYTHING.
The fact that our government promises to us that we are ENTITLED to everything also means that THEY are the only ones capable of delivering those promises, and THAT responsibility means that they must also be given absolute control over our choices as those choices now are a burden not of the individual, but of the collective (of which they are in charge). Ultimately we are entitled to what ever the powers we give over to them to TAKE from others, for our provision. Ultimately we are empowering them to take from us so we might receive from them.
Republicans will NOT give up that power. NEVER.
“The partisan breakdown is 39 percent Democrat, 30 percent Republican”.
Overweight Dems much?
But then, Harvard itself and most institutions linked to Harvard lean strongly left. If you found a centrist-run poll you might well find 80% approval for crackdowns on so called sanctuary cities.
The question is: Did they adjust the polls to account for that?
The whole thing is screwy.
If the pollster believes that progressives are the majority, then they feel fully justified in using larger numbers of them in their poll. Regardless, it is their JOB to tell us how to think.

Ahh good ole Harvard results from polls and studies. Having myself work with Harvard on housing studies, they are always biased towards whatever party is sitting in office. Why you may ask, the sitting party is paying for the studies and year after year the studies never display how the results or the data collected, was collected.
Personally I am all for with holding funds to sanctuary cities. I am sure many want illegal oh I meant undocumented aliens living on our dime. Hell a council woman in Santa Fe did not care about losing federal funding her solution was to simply raise the property owners taxes to cover the losses without the people having a vote to support her big mouth. Gotta love someone spending someone else’s money without their input.
The IRS or the State tax collection agency can take everything you have if you do not pay your taxes but it is ok to spend US citizen’s money on people here illegally. Better yet give them free housing as well because they have an anchor baby. The rest of the family all 6 of them are her illegally though.
At this point, the only taxation we enjoy representation with, is the sales tax, because we don’t have to buy things if we don’t want to. Oh yeah–except food and clothing.
By the numbers, you can tell there’s no representation in government; by the frustration, you can tell there’s no representation in government; by the fact that people are arguing ceaselessly about what their latest “representative” is doing, ditto: it can only boil down to the fact that citizens no longer have a voice.
A fact I repeatedly cite is that we would need 11,000 members in the House just to achieve the constitutional ratio of 1:30,000 that the Founders thought was appropriate when the federal government’s funding came predominantly from customs duties. It took only four times that ratio, 1:130,000, reached in 1858, to create an intuition of oppression that became the context for civil war.
I never get a reply to that arithmetic. Is it nonsense? Irrelevant? Were the Founders just completely wrong? Were human dynamics really so different then? With us being that much farther along, at 1:700,000 just for federal taxes, and 1:20,000 for the additional layer local taxes that is now at bare minimum eight times as much per capita as the original Federal Government collected in 1800, what hope is there for representation?
This is not a rhetorical question; can somebody please help me out, here?
Do you think that ALL illegal immigrants should be released back to the city by the local police INSTEAD of holding them until federal government can DEPORT them despite many illegal immigrants being accused and/or convicted of rape, assault, drunk driving, theft or being known gang-members of violent gangs such as MS-13?
ALL supporters of sanctuary cities are morally and in front of God responsible for ALL crimes committed by illegal immigrants after release.
Formatting the question is the most important thing about polls.
The question should be as above to get 95% to oppose sanctuary cities.

A more accurate measure would be to collect and include the current occupational breakdown of the polling sample.
Jon Sellers said:
So, you are saying that if an American-born citizen rapes and murders an innocent person, they will go to jail in a sanctuary city. But if an illegal immigrant does the same the police release them to the streets?
Is that really what happens in sanctuary cities? I honestly don’t know and don’t follow this thing, but I would find it hard to believe that they’re releasing suspected criminals.

Wow! I had no idea.
We are supposed to be a nation of laws, NOT ideologies. Progressives REFUSE to use our congress to actually make law, and they refuse to use the constitution to make amendments that would allow laws to be changed. Instead they use courts to redefine our constitution and ideological elected leaders to simply ignore laws of which they do not like…..and these SAME people ae in the streets complaining of Fascism and tyranny when their education has obviously failed in that they are directly SUPPORTING BOTH through their protests. Silence free speech, assassinate the president, all while the media suggests that ANYONE who would push back or resist this fascism is incentivizing violence.
This is NO different that progressives suggesting we should show tolerance to Islamic oppression of women, while admitting that to resist or say no would result in “incentivizing” the fundamentalists to violence, and somehow making that OUR fault. What happened to their principles? Or are they simply using fear as a justification for pushing their agenda? How DARE they impugn Trump supporters as immoral or haters, when they can turn a complete blind eye to massive amounts of blatant hypocrisy of their own.
Progressives have become the Catholic Church where they preach of humanity, of sacrifice for others, while accumulating massive power and wealth behind their own “walls”….the Pope quite literally and the progressives behind their wall of media controlled speech and political correctness. They both profess this public sacrifice while sacrificing NOTHING themselves.
I don’t care what reason he uses for reducing federal funding. Cut it all.
Chuck O said:
Why is it that we have a poll about whether or not a person that committed a crime is a criminal. When a local politician violates a federal law, they become a criminal. What is the purpose of the poll?
Oh, then the liberal press says the person whose first act is to enter this country ILLEGALLY, their NEXT crime is ONLY Identity Theft. (How else are they going to get a job.)
They don’t discuss the fact that the revenue is being reported under the other person’s SS#. Now the person’s whose SS# was used ILLEGALLY has thousands of dollars on their record at the IRS and they are expected to pay Income Taxes on that UNREPORTED Revenue. Imagine cleaning up that mess if someone had used your identity to get a job ILLEGALLY.
I’m fed up with these illegal people being treated as the victim.
Jon Sellers said:
From my limited experience, illegals don’t steal other people’s SS#s, they just get paid under the table. I read an article about a chicken processing facility in Iowa (or maybe Kansas) and the owner was just paying hundreds of illegals under the table, when they got busted.
Chuck O said:
” they just get paid under the table”
Jon, that means they are NOT paying any taxes, which negates the liberal argument that these ILLEGALs are paying taxes.
So we would be in agreement: Either the ILLEGAL immigrant is doing Identity Theft OR they are getting paid “under the table”. Neither of these two options are good for the legal citizens of this country.
Paid under the table is even worse than identity theft.
Jon Sellers said:
Don’t disagree. I’d be happy to see those people paying under the table do a little prison time themselves. That would probably end the need to build a wall. No one will come here if they can’t find work.
Anyone paying under the table is likely doing it with cash. As a business owner, if I choose to pay an employee in cash, then that cash must come from accounts that must report 1099 or else it comes from MY cash which has already had a hefty tax extracted from it.
My experience is that most illegals are employed under a social security number, that typically MUST be appropriated (stolen), and in doing so virtually EVERY DAMNED ONE is claiming massive dependents…6,8, 10, which means they pay NO income tax and only SSI. Of course we have NEVER heard of an illegal being audited, and why would they when illegals are not held responsible under any other law, identity theft or otherwise. Police have told me that they do not pursue illegals accept in the most egregious cases as it is a WASTE OF TIME. The IRS is no different, not to mention it does not fit an ideological agenda.
Many illegal immigrants are identity thieves and steal other people’s SSN’s.
I would say it is 50-50 meaning half steal the identity of american to use when it is needed but they mostly do not cause financial problems other than tax issues for the original owner which IRS usually waives when it is clear that the SSN is used in another state by an illegal.
Those who have been in USA for a long time can start using their birthright citizenship kids SSN when it comes to work starting from when they turn 18 years old.
Let us see ONE government statistic. How many illegals are audited every year?
This immigration thing is rotten from top to bottom. Deliberately ignoring the law to facilitate every aspect of maintaining illegal immigration, and the ONE thing that clarifies it all is the over the top, unrelenting attack of a president who actually threatens to ENFORCE our laws. The very same laws that EVERY natural born citizen is subject to…in many cases to the LETTER of the law, with NO regard to circumstances, much less JUSTICE, yet illegals are given every consideration….to the point that millions of dollars are pledged by progressives groups to provide FREE legal defense….something afforded to virtually NO american citizen.
It is fine to practice empathy in one’s life. It is GOOD to imagine what it is like to live in another’s shoes, BUT, it is quite something else to suggest that empathy means we should ignore our own interests exclusively for another’s. It is madness. It is SUICIDE.
The Dept of Treasury Inspector General reported that in 2010 illegal aliens with ITIN tax ID numbers collected $4.2 billion in child tax credits.
To my knowledge they still collect it today.
60 Minutes did a piece on it. Some of the tax credit kids were living in Mexico.
This country is really f’ed up.
I dispute the poll breakdown. There is no “independent” party. These folks may not register as Dem or Repub, but they usually vote one way or the other consistently.
Jon Sellers said:
I vote against the incumbent.
Jon Sellers said:
Really. Regardless of party. I’m a Republican in a highly Republican district. I always vote Democrat against the local, highly corrupt officialdom. My Congressman is Bill Posey (R). Bill was a local real estate guy who made a decent living. Now he is a multi-millionaire living in beach front property. That’s from taking money out of Washington, not earning it.
Same goes for Senators Bill Nelson (D) and Marco Rubio (R). Both incumbent slime.

…aw forget it. What Liberal believes in arithmetic anymore?
Talked to a Canadian who was an ultra liberal. His feeling was that people should be able to move anywhere they liked. If they don’t like where they are at they should be free to move anywhere. Definitely no borders. I responded that I did not want immigrants flooding his home in Canada and my home in the US because it would destroy our cultures. He just looked at me like I was stupid. Of course he lived on prince Edward isle in Nova Scotia which is almost 100% white. He was so insulated he did not have a clue. Most liberals insulated themselves intellectually. I find libertarians are the most apt to consider other viewpoints.

Yes Jon. open borders is the official Libertarian Party position, but many people who are pretty much libertarian do not agree with that (myself included) and see it as a “nice” idea but cultural suicide. Other Libertarian positions that members do not always agree on are abortion and gun control, which is also a lot like democrat & repub official position controversies.
CJ, don’t forget that the official position of the Libertarian Party is that the state has no governmental welfare system. That fact put a whole different light on open borders.
True freedom has consequence. Big government is about redistribution of consequence. When libertarians can devise a means of dissolving big government, entitlement, then maybe I will become a Libertarian. Johnson was the worst kind of Libertarian.

The whole world will come here if we leave our borders open long enough. Nobody has a “right” to come here. Trump campaigned that he would fix the immigration problem and he is keeping his campaign promise. The only poll needed was last Nov 8.
You think you have issues?
Can this possibly be true, as where goes Germany so goes EU sooner or later.
Schulz is an open borders fanatic and EU fanatic just like I have stated many times.
Germans are choosing an even crazier person than Merkel if they vote for Schulz.
Both Merkel and Schulz should have been shown to be insane crazies by the German press but unfortunately german media is controlled and politically correct and Merkel is treated like a responsible statesman by german media and Schulz is a fresh challenger according to german media.
German media treats Merkel and Schulz just like russian media treats Putin…

Jon Sellers said:

There are two deficits to conservatism action. One is that YES, they ARE working and have no time for such frivolities. My father always said he was too busy working for a living to make any REAL money.
The second issue is that those not working not only have a lot of discretionary time to spend, but they also understand the vulnerabilities of being DEPENDENT, that being so is the bottom of the barrel, end of the line, that after dependency, there IS no other option, and as such they are incentivized to FIGHT to keep what they have, as there IS no other source. They have no job skills, they have NOTHING to sell except their outrage.
Conservatives have always seen work as their salvation, NOT entitlement, and YES they understand fully that these entitlement schemes are slowly sucking them dry, but they still BELIEVE in work, they still BELIEVE that they can overcome the barriers, the regulations, taxes and disparagement to still succeed. They see their future best preserved in work, not protest.
The left, those bottom of the barrel dependents, they DO NOT believe they can overcome the barriers. They only believe that through the power of government, of FORCE by their surrogates, they can be made whole, even if they have not a clue what that actually means.

I can go along with send home illegals. If they really want to be here, do it the legal way and assimilate, as was the intentions with the way the process was designed. My only concern is that when we do try to send them all back, what do we do when Mexico lines the border up and down with military and denies them reentry? If there are as many (illegals) as has been suggested, does anyone believe Mexico will just open their gates? What about the South American countries that sent their undesirables northward?
I have no answer to this.
According to international law each country is responsible for their own citizens.
If Mexico refuses to take back mexicans cut off all remittances to Mexico, cut off foreign aid, stop giving visas to mexican upper class and stop all investments and put 100% punishment tariff to all products coming to USA until Mexico starts taking back their citizens.
Same kind of treatment for Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador etc. etc.
That’s a long list. And it’s much easier to say to do it, than it is to implement.
I don’t think Trump’s pen is even that strong-armed.
Any American citizen who believes in a moral code supports cracking down on sanctuary cities.
Why no sanctuary cities for tax evaders? Would the government allow that?
So why are they protecting illegal foreigners?
As a wall fan, I can’t believe 47% of voters support the wall. I figured I was outnumbered ten to one.
