The already strained relationship between Germany and Turkey took another step for the worse when Germany canceled appearances of two of Turkey’s ministers.
In response, Erdogan Accused Germany of Nazi Practices.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan likened Germany’s cancellation of public appearances by two of his ministers to Nazi practices, aggravating frictions that had already flared over Turkey’s human rights record.
Germany’s decision has “nothing to do with democracy,” Erdogan said at an event in Istanbul on Sunday, state news agency Anadolu reported. “Recent practices are no different from the Nazi ones of the past.” The German government press office didn’t immediately respond to calls seeking comment, but Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union deputy parliamentary leader Michael Fuchs called Erdogan’s Nazi references “outrageous.”
Ties between Turkey and Germany, as well as the rest of the European Union, have been strained over Erdogan’s sweeping crackdown on opponents following the failed attempt to topple him in July. Ankara has jailed a German-Turkish reporter whom Erdogan described as a spy, and is pressing Germany to extradite fugitive Turkish military officers involved in the coup attempt.
New tensions emerged on Thursday after the municipality of Gaggenau in southwest Germany revoked its permission for Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag to campaign for a planned referendum to expand Erdogan’s powers, citing concerns of overcrowding. Bozdag canceled his trip and a scheduled meeting with his German counterpart.
Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci’s planned address on Sunday to a Turkish community in the western city of Cologne was also canceled by local authorities citing security concerns. Zeybekci traveled to Germany to attend another event.
Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern called for an end to Turkey’s EU membership bid in a Bild am Sonntag interview published on Sunday. Kern said Turkey has distanced itself from democratic standards and the principles of rule of law, and called on the EU to rethink billions of euros in aid intended to promote Turkey’s membership campaign.
The European Union is a critical trade partner for Turkey, taking 47 percent of its total exports in January. Germany was the No. 1 export destination for Turkish goods, accounting for 10 percent of exports, according to Turkey’s official statistics agency.
When Will Migration Agreement Blow Up?
It’s a given, at least in my book, that Turkey has no future in the EU. But Merkel cannot come out and say that until after the German election on September 24.
Her fear is Turkey will unleash a new way of migrants. Were that to happen, Merkel’s deteriorating chances of winning the election would sink further.
Were that to happen, Merkel’s deteriorating chances of winning the election would sink further.
She brought this crisis upon herself with an idiotic open arms welcome of refugees. And she still has not stated that her welcome was wrong. The only hint of error admission was a statement by Merkel that she would have better prepared for the mass migration if she could go back in time.
So when does this agreement with the devil become unglued?
I suspect Erdogan may unleash another wave of migrants this summer unless Germany gives into his demands. Summer is the perfect time to disrupt the German election.

Meanwhile, Erdogan is growing increasingly agitated.
My July 16, 2016 question is still unanswered: Dear chancellor Merkel: When does Turkey join the EU? When do 80 million Turks have visa-free travel?

The sooner the Germans rid themselves of Merkel the better it will be for everyone.
It is my contention she has been in power for too long and has as a result lost touch with reality.
Considering the alternative, Schulz from the SPD, Germany is better off with Merkel. But it probably doesn’t even matter, Germany is doomed either way.
Germans have been give NO CHOICE at the ballot box.
Perhaps Schulz will give more of their money way in “solidarity”.
Both Merkel and Schulz are business as usual, no alternative for Germany, pardon the pun.
Schulz is even WORSE than Merkel when it comes to open borders insanity and loose and lax asylum seeker system that is LURING welfareseekers by the millions.
IF Schulz becomes the German leader then he will most likely give all power to EU meaning drunk-Juncker could quickly start a permanent automatic burden sharing like planned in the may 2016 draft.
If there is automatic permanent burden sharing then 2015 will seem like a slow year and there will be 5-20 million people coming to europe every year since EU-commission plans stated that once a country reaches a 150% of the amount EU-commission thinks they should take then ALL coming after that point are burden-shared around Europe meaning that after 1-2 months Greece and Italy would reach 150% of their quota and EVERYONE coming after that would be given a ride by EU to welfare paying parts of Europe.
There are 200-400 million people in Middle East and Africa who would like to live on european welfare in a free apartment with free healthcare and no need to work or even learn the local language.
The welfare office in nordic countries even pays for the satellite system to watch tv-channels from back home so “refugees” can stay in touch with their culture.
The assimilation in Europe of muslims and africans into the local culture is NON-EXISTANT because the official policy is multiculturalism meaning they are told to keep their own culture and even learning the local language is optional so welfare money keeps flowing no matter what.
My July 16, 2016 question is still unanswered: Dear chancellor Merkel: When does Turkey join the EU? When do 80 million Turks have visa-free travel?
With Erdogan running that country? NEVER
With anybody else? NEVER
Maybe Erdogan won’t succeed with his takeover? He seems to be rather frantic in recent weeks.
He may discovers the ‘Golden’ rule in politics: Never blame someone as a Nazi – it will come back and eat you (remember Greece’s politicians?)
Hitler and Nazi references are in vogue today. It is clear anyone who uses these terms haven’t a clue what it means. Most people are ignorant of history and live with misconceptions of the past. People are very aware of Hitlers actions during the war but more fuzzy on how he governed for the five years prior to war. Many of the things he did in prewar Germany today, we do without giving it much thought. Our society is in many ways repressive as it was in Prewar Germany. A couple examples, we now use the term homeland as they did and our formation of TSA parallels the Gestapo in many ways. Something to think about before you call some one a Nazi or compare them to Hitler.
Hitler had his Bergtesgaden, Obama has his golf course.
LOL, …they BOTH had George Soros!
You must realize that any good that Hitler did in the early years was completely obliterated by his insanity, and maybe the comparisons are to Hitler’s scorched earth policy at the end of the war.
He would take Germany down if he couldn’t have his way. It seems that that level of selfishness is in vogue with many politicians today.
Speaking of selfish, OT– our representatives also need to use whatever health care plan they come up with for the rest of us. Trump shouldn’t sign until that is established, and shame all those who would refuse.
Erdogan must just be loving this… it’s soooo….. Schengen.

Won’t those migrants warehoused in Turkey right now actually be ‘in’ the EU if Turkey joins the EU?
Sounds like more nonsensical pretense juggling by our leaders to keep everyone baffled and immobilized.

Summer is indeed the time I think he will unleash more migrants. It is winter in paradise now and the Middle Eastern refugees would not like the move to the very cold environments and would complain about Erdogan abandoning them.
Many refugees balked at being released in the Northern colder regions of Europe as it was too cold.
Merkel is going to pay the price and now with Brussels stating they will fine every EU member that refuses to take refugees will cause even more problems with the EU.
When you look at the number of competences Brussells wants to take upon itself the nation states will no longer exist outside of small scale regional decisions.
One day someone will ask, “Why am I voting for xyz as head of Government when they have no real power?”
That day democracy is understood to be dead in that country and they are just a star on a flag, nothing more.
The coldest countries are wanted by welfareseekers because of their high levels of welfare.
Sweden is a cold country but the welfare is good, there is NO punishment for stoning police, ambulance and firemen.
Swedish police sit in their trucks scared when there are riots so Swedish government just lets rioters burn cars and schools and buses instead of ARRESTING every last rioter.
Sweden is the most favorite destination after Germany.
Denmark and Norway used to be most favorite destinations after Sweden but both have tightened policies, started rejecting more baseless asylum claims and deporting criminals and have tightened family re-unifications to welfare and shortened residence permits and cut the amount of welfare that is paid.
Finland was also jolted into reality when 30,000 iraqis and somalis and afganistanis arrived in 2015 through Sweden after Sweden had no more places and the swedish asylum system crashed in 2015 so Finland has been copying policies by Norway and Denmark in tightened policies, started rejecting more baseless asylum claims and deporting criminals and have tightened family re-unifications to welfare.
There have been lots of complaints by welfareseekers in all the cold countries but they are to do with the welfareseekers wanting to stay in big cities with lots of nightclubs so they could get drunk with the welfare money that is still paid to them.
Whole of Europe should STOP ALL WELFARE MONEY to asylum seekers in the asylum seeking phase and TOP ALL WELFARE MONEY to asylum seekers when they have received residence permits and ONLY give food ingredients.
Giving FREE apartments is INSANE and should be STOPPED and there should be just dorm-style accommodation 4-6 guys per room EVEN after residence permit has been issued.
The flow of welfareseekers would STOP after no more free welfare and no more free apartments would be available based on just a story of “persecution” where iraqis, afganistanis and somalis CIRCULATE successful asylum claim stories on facebook.
Erdogan will most likely not unleash a refugee tsunami onto the EU. Germany could retaliate and freeze billions in health insurance transfers towards Turkey.
What most people don’t know, relatives of Turkish workers in Germany that live in Turkey are covered by German health insurance. So the grandma in Turkey, whose grandchild works in Germany actually is covered by German health insurance.
A very generous arrangement that could easily be canceled in retaliation with trade sanctions to boot.
Most of the welfareseeker flow (99% are NOT refugees but people who were lured by high acceptance rates for even fake stories of persecution with no fact-checking by the incompetent immigration bureaucrats deciding asylum cases and the FREE apartment and FREE welfare money that followed if one reached Germany and Sweden and other welfare countries) was STOPPED when Austria and Slovenia closed their borders in spring of 2016 despite Merkel repeatedly demanding that borders must be kept open.
Within 24 hours of Austria and Slovenia closing their borders Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia also closed their borders which made Greece unable to continue pushing people north like Syriza and Alexis Tsipras had done since early 2015 and which had caused the rush to Europe because Greece’s incompetent policy made it possible to reach the welfare countries with Sweden and Germany the most generous ones with the most incompetent asylum decision making process.
A real refugee does NOT travel through 5-10 SAFE countries seeking the country with the most incompetent asylum bureaucrats and highest acceptance rates and that gives FREE apartment and FREE welfare money.
The deal with Turkey is NOT necessary IF borders with Greece are kept SHUT and Juncker and EU CANCEL their incompetent temporary “voluntary” burden sharing of 160,000 from Greece and Italy and CANCEL the EU comission plans (may 2016 draft) for a permanent burden sharing system which would start an even bigger rush to Europe than the one in 2015 and early 2016.
“…the municipality of Gaggenau in southwest Germany revoked its permission for Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag to campaign for a planned referendum to expand Erdogan’s powers…”
Don’t know why the Turkish Justice Minister would need to campaign in Germany for a Turkish referendum but Merkel is scheduled to meet with Trump in a week or two.
Merkel, like all German & W German chancellors that preceded her back to 1949, is something of a US puppet. I suspect her immigration policies were pushed, or at least supported, by Obama and his predecessors. Perhaps Trump will be the president who finally sets Germany free. That way, Merkel can go home and become a born-again turkey shooter.
Trump might allow that…but, only if She Bought the Ammunition from America…lolol
Large Turkish x-pat community able to vote. Can’t ignore the German element as they add up at the ballot box do they go to canvass to them.
To blame the US for Merkel’s stupidity is ridiculous . People forget that European currency changes hands with both the acceptance and relocation of refugees
Easier to blame us I guess
Some incredulous news emerged out of Germany this weekend. It’s now claimed that Merkel’s government did not want this huge wave of migrants and was ready to close the border in September 2015. The plan was reportedly stopped at the last minute because neither Merkel nor anyone else in Germany’s government wanted to take responsibility for this action. They feared it would not hold up in court and were afraid of the press. Basically, Germany’s government is more sane but a lot weaker than I thought as these pussies don’t want to take hard decisions.
That means ALL of CDU/CSU and ALL of SPD were and are INCOMPETENT idiots and spineless cowards.
If the borders had been closed by Germany all other countries would have likewise closed their borders in under 24 hours making Greece the only country people coming thru Turkey could reach and with NO welfare and NO free apartments in Greece the rush would have stopped and people would have stopped drowning.
Greece is SAFE, there is just NO free welfare money and NO free apartments.
Turkey is SAFE, there is just NO free welfare money and NO free apartments.
The millions Merkel LURED to Europe are 99% of cases welfareseekers.
Everyone who passes through 1 SAFE country without making an asylum application should have their asylum applications INSTANTLY REJECTED in all following countries to stop the welfareseeking and asylum shopping done by the people dreaming about free money and free apartments in Europe and ABUSING and SCAMMING the asylum system..
Two sides to every coin. If you read the whole article link you will see meetings are apparently going forward with no hysteria or threats. Perhaps will be more peaceful than Leftist anti-Milo and anti-Trump stuff in USA.
“I thought Germany left [Nazi practices] behind a long time ago. We are mistaken. You lecture us about democracy but then you don’t let this country’s ministers speak there,” Erdoğan said…Germany, the Netherlands and Austria, which have all prohibited Turkish pro-government rallies in their territories. Meanwhile, Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekçi departed for Germany on March 5 for his planned address to a Turkish community in western city of Cologne, despite the fact that the meeting was earlier cancelled due to security problems. Organizers subsequently hired a different hall in Cologne for the meeting…
Germany is home to around three million Turkish nationals who have the right to vote in elections and referendums. Turkish politicians from all political parties have frequently traveled to Germany to attract votes, with both the ruling party and the opposition planning to hold dozens of meetings with their electorate until April polls. The crisis was sparked after the municipality of Gaggenau in southwest Germany revoked its permission for Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ’s meeting, citing concerns about overcrowding. This prompted Bozdağ to cancel his planned visit to Germany altogether. “According to the information I received, the municipality had no intention to cancel the meeting. On the contrary, it carried out works for the realization of the meeting,” Bozdağ told reporters in the Central Anatolian town of Yozgat. “Of course, it is the central government and the intelligence agency…Bozdağ also said that the Gaggenau municipality was also “under the pressure of terror organizations,” saying the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), the Fethullahist Terror Organization (FETÖ) and the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) had freedom to continue their activities there. “We are against terror, terrorism and terrorists. If there is any country protecting or harboring them it is Germany itself,” he added.
