The amount of nonsense written about Trump’s firing of FBI director James Comey is staggering.
Democrats allege the firing is proof that Trump is hiding something. So here we go again with absurd allegations and innuendo that Trump conspired with Rusia to steal the election from Hillary.
Let’s start with the key question: Was Comey competent?
Competence Timeline
On July 5, 2016, the New York Times reported F.B.I. Director James Comey Recommends No Charges for Hillary Clinton on Email.
On July 7, 2016, Bloomberg reported Comey on Clinton: I See Evidence of Great Carelessness.
On October 28, 2016, just prior to the November election, the Financial Times reported Comey Opens New Probe Into Hillary Clinton’s Emails.
When Should Comey Have Been Fired?
The answer is July 5, by president Obama.
The following May 9 snip from Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein’s Letter to Trump Recommending Comey be Fired will explain.
The subject of Rosenstein’s letter to Trump was “Restoring Public Confidence in the FBI”
The director [Comey] was wrong to usurp the Attorney General’s authority on July 5, 2016, and announce his conclusion that the case should be closed without prosecution. It is not the function of the Director to make such an announcement. At most, the Director should have said the FBI had completed its investigation and presented its findings to federal prosecutors. The Director now defends his decision by asserting that he believed attorney General Loretta Lynch had a conflict. But the FBI Director is never empowered to supplant federal prosecutors and assume command of the Justice Department. There is a well-established process for other officials to step in when a conflict requires the recusal of the Attorney General. On July 5, however, the Director announced his own conclusions about the nation’s most sensitive criminal investigation, without the authorization of duly appointed Justice Department leaders.
Compounding the error, the Director ignored another longstanding principle: we do not hold press conferences to release derogatory information about the subject of a declined criminal investigation. Derogatory information sometimes is disclosed in the course of criminal investigations and prosecutions, but we never release it gratuitously. The Director laid out his version of the facts for the news media as if it were a closing argument, but without a trial. It is a textbook example of what federal prosecutors and agents are taught not to do.
Does Anyone Disagree?
If not, then Comey deserved to be fired. President Obama should have fired Comey on the spot. Obama didn’t because he liked Comey’s statement. It later backfired.
Russia Witch Hunt
A call for a probe into Trump’s ties with Russia is beyond absurd.
It would make more sense to investigate Hillary than to go down this Russia conspiracy path.
One More Angle
It’s highly unlikely Trump is involved in election conspiracies of any kind. Such investigations are a waste of time and money.
However, it’s possible Comey acted alone, in a perfectly timed effort to wreck Hillary. Such a scenario is far more likely than the Russia nonsense we have been reading about.
Blame Obama
If Comey is to blame for Hillary losing, take it back to the true source: President Obama’s decision to not fire a clearly inept FBI chief.
Mike “Mish” Shedlock
I’m going with a version of Hanlon’s law on this one. The press is already reporting that Trump instructed Rosenstein to write a memo laying out the case to fire Comey so Trump could do just that after getting angrier and angrier at seeing him on Capitol Hill. Matt Drudge has written that Trump team are 24 hour leakers and the story that emerging seems far more plausible than Trump seeking to replace an incompetent FBI chiefl
Lots of Fake News out there. The DOJ denies the stories from “confidential sources” in WaPo and NYT:
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-05-11/more-drama-deputy-attorney-general-rosenstein-threatens-resign-over-comey-terminatio
It’s simply begs credibility, to think that Rosenstein less than two weeks on the job would somehow decide his first action should be to craft a memo on his own laying out the case for firing Comey. He barely had enough time to organize his office and meet the staff, let alone get settled in.
Might that memo been suggested by Trump or one of his aides? Sure. Was it a reasonable request? Yes, also sure.
And I am no huge defender of Tump. My posts prove it.
I disagree with Trump on NAFTA, on the Wall, on his handling of the travel ban, on Syria – lots of things all stated.
And look at the reaction of Comey: Very Loyal! Was he really going to lead the charge on Russia?
There should not even be a Russia investigation. The idea Trump colluded with Putin is absurd.
Mish
The reason Obama didn’t fire the Director of the FBI is the same reason that Trump is in trouble now: Perception of interference in an ungoing investigation. How do you think the GOP would have reacted if Obama had fired him…really, to say otherwise is to really not understand the dynamic of the American political system
“The reason Obama didn’t fire the Director of the FBI is the same reason that Trump is in trouble now: Perception of interference in an ongoing investigation. How do you think the GOP would have reacted if Obama had fired him…really, to say otherwise is to really not understand the dynamic of the American political system”
Logic does not wash. The FBI director supported Hillary – initially
These reports are again based upon the usual ‘sources’. Nice fiction writing if you ask me. The press does not have news, so they fabricate it. Especially if it supports their political views.
One major news outlet actually wrote about what Trump does on a Sunday afternoon BY HIMSELF [watching political programs on television it seems] and goes on to write WHAT HE IS THINKING ABOUT (information from ‘sources’).
Now come on, do they think that we are so stupid as to believe this is not completely made up claptrap? I mean, who cares what Trump does on a Sunday afternoon.
If one looks at most of the news coming from the mainstream these days it does not pass the smell test. Not even fake news is a sufficient definition. How about plain lies and fabrications.
But who knows? Eventually one of these fictions will come true in the same way a broken clock is correct twice a day.
http://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-america-first-2017-5
There is a man out there tgreatening a nuclear strike – weirdo Kim-jong. America and Russia have a joint interest in neutering this man. So to have an FBI chief obsessed with pursuing a “Russian investigation” about something which is more than likely a hoax, is more than a nuisance, it is a dire threat to America’s vital security interests in working closely with Russia.
Fully agree. Russia and China both have armed forces on North Korea’s border as US armed forces lurk in nearby oceans; NK is in turn threatening another nuclear test while maintaining two satellites with unknown purpose and contents over everyone’s head. Pakistan and India appear to be sniping at each other across their border again. China has proven its’ expansionist intent with the seizure, fortification, and militarization of the South China Sea and building the so-called “String of Pearls” bases across the world and as far away from them as Africa. China has 20% of the world’s population and only 7% of the world’s arable land, so it is resorting to massive over-fishing in an attempt to feed everyone, but that is causing ecological breakdown, pollution on an epic scale, and resource depletion that will be difficult if not impossible to overcome, but nobody says anything about that.
Most of the governments of the “free world” teeter on the brink of insolvency as do their state and local governments and even mighty China is suffering a slowdown or even a contraction. A serious global recession will tip many into real economic crisis.
All of these factors together put the world in a situation closer to war than we have seen in a half-century. Instead of getting anywhere near addressing such crucial issues, the US media is literally obsessed with flinging around quotes from partisans about infighting at the capital and who is using what bathroom. It is pathetic and incredibly dangerous.
But note that progressives seem to have no issue with communist China no matter how egregious their behavior, yet Russia, the FAILED communist state that HAS rejected said ideology, is on their most dangerous enemy list.
Weird, right?
So the US, a so-called democracy, is a fascistic oligarchy, China, a so-called communist state, is a fascistic oligarchy, and Russia, a former communist state, is a fascistic oligarchy.
Seems like a malformed type of capitalism run by alpha control freaks is what the self-enslaved public wants – and deserves.
As for Comey, had he gone after Clinton, the Clinton Hit Squad (CIA?) would have gone after him. Gotta protect their legacy child.
You nailed this one, Mish. The hypocrisy of the Democrats is staggering.
@Denni Bingo you win the prize!!!!!!!!!!!
The hypocrisy is so blatant. In October the Dems started calling for Comey’s head and now they are praising him. I think a lot is going on in the background we the people will never know about.
I turn the news on now just for the weather as the Dems are still crying the Russian thing and even my lib neighbors are tired of hearing it. The key is none of the hacked emails were lies and this coming from my Yellowdog friends.
Washington and the mainstream media all look like a circus as they continue to pursue this and the people are sick of it. The election is over. I was sick of all the great Obama coverage and now I am sick of all the negative coverage of Trump. I guess the Dems base and the media are still trying to convince themselves still.
Hillary lost because she left the working class for the meritocracy class and thought they would carry the day along with the blacks and the gay community and lets not forget the illegals. The Gay community makes up less then 2% of the total population. Blacks stayed home as she pandered to them. The Democratic base stayed home as they discovered like so many Hillary was anointed by the DNC and they screw Bernie out of the primary. Now she blames Comey.
You just can no longer make this shit up. Strip California out of the equation and Trump won big time. Guess what if Hillary had actually won people would not be rioting in the streets or crying on the internet. Grown ups move on bitch about the election and deal with it.
Both candidates actually sucked Trump was jut the lesser of the two evils.
It is hypocrisy but the passage of time still makes it relevant that he is firing to quash the investigation.
agree,
Comey was dumb enough to take the heat off Loretta Lynch.
that is what you call being a useful idiot-he should have been fired just for that.
maybe the next director will be competent.
I wonder how much these investigations cost the taxpayers.
“The hypocrisy of the Democrats is staggering.”
1. Comey announces that the HildaBeast would not be prosecuted because there was no “intent” even though that’s not required by the statutes for prosecution or for the revocation of a security clearance (which would have made the HB unable to serve in gov beyond janitor level) and even though that judgement was not his to make as he was not the Attorney General. He said he made that call because he felt the AG/Bill Clinton meeting had compromised the trustworthiness of the AG (as if any informed and thinking person would have had any).
Dems LOVE Comey!
2. Comey announces that the HB email investigation is reopened due to Weiner rogue weiner emails.
Dems HATE Comey!
3. Trump fires Comey.
Dems LOVE Comey!
Except the confused audience of Steven Colbert who don’t know the latest official party line about that – sheep out of their corral – to be shepherded back in by Colbert after their reaction here:
Lol, what a bunch of buffoons him and his audience.
And what would the reactions have been, had Obama fired Comey?
That’s right. He was protecting Hillary.
Come on, Mish.
And what would the reactions have been, had Obama fired Comey?
That’s right. He was protecting Hillary.
Come on, Mish.
Please think before stating the Ridiculous
Comey originally protected Hillary.
That’s when I said he should have been fired.
Trump made a martyr when he fired Comey.
Comey should have let any politically tinged investigation run it’s full course without interjecting himself by stopping them short or offering play-by-play.
However he wins by losing with speeches, books and made for tv movies,
“Trump made a martyr when he fired Comey.”
People in government are at risk of losing their jobs too, just like us folk in the private sector. Just because somebody gets fired (who deserved it, in my view) doesn’t make them a martyr.
Comey had a good run. Time to move on to other things. No doubt he will go back into the banking sector, from whence he came. Good riddance.
Sorry, but James Comey never worked on Wall Street, nor for any bank. Not that I’m at all sad to see him get his due but, facts are facts.
“Former US Deputy Attorney General joins HSBC Board”
James Brien Comey, Jr. (52), former United States Deputy Attorney General, has been appointed a Director of HSBC Holdings plc with effect from 4 March 2013.
http://www.hsbc.com/news-and-insight/media-resources/media-releases/2013/former-us-deputy-attorney-general-joins-hsbc-board
HSBC Holdings plc is the British holding company over HSBC Group. Obama appointed Comey to the FBI as of June 2013, I believe.
There is also a smell coming from these connections. Mark Carney involved too – specific to investigations of HSBC.
Watch Comey’s next appointment – it will be linked to a large financial institution – maybe JPM.
Aha – the plot thickens!
From 2010 to early 2013, Comey was employed by Bridgewater Associates, the Connecticut investment firm. In the early 2000’s he was U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York – a position often identified as the ‘Sheriff of Wall Street’.
CJ – Watch this:
Crap, that’s an hour long! But I already like the Warning. I’ll watch it tomorrow and give you my critique.
A very slowly-draining-swamp, is at least “draining”. Hillary might have fired Comey as well, but she would have replaced him with Rachel Maddow.
Two pillars of the deep state are now gone: Brennan and Comey. There are a few more but there are also some bricks here and there at the lower levels that need to go.
You can see who the real swamp monsters by the screeching and moaning over Comey’s sacking. Better that they were quiet, people are watching.
Judicial Watch Sues State Department for Records of Alleged Russian Tampering in the 2016 Election that were Shared with Senator Benjamin Cardin
The New York Times reported ‘a cache of documents marked “secret”’ was sent to Senator Cardin
(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of State for all records provided by them to Senator Benjamin Cardin’s office related to alleged Russian interference with the 2016 presidential election. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of State (No. 1:17-cv-00852)).
The suit was filed after the State Department failed to respond to a March 2, 2017, FOIA request seeking:
All records provided by any official, employee, or representative of the Department of State to Senator Ben Cardin, any member of his staff, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and/or any Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff member regarding, concerning, or related to efforts by the Russian Government to affect, manipulate, or influence any election in the United States or any foreign country from November 8, 2016 to present.
The Obama Administration reportedly spread information about alleged Russian efforts to undermine the 2016 presidential election:
There was also an effort to pass reports and other sensitive materials to Congress. In one instance, the State Department sent a cache of documents marked “secret” to Senator Benjamin Cardin of Maryland days before the Jan. 20 inauguration. The documents, detailing Russian efforts to intervene in elections worldwide, were sent in response to a request from Mr. Cardin, the top Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee, and were shared with Republicans on the panel.
This is the fourth Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit (see here, here, here) related to the surveillance, unmasking, and illegal leaking targeting President Trump and his associates.
“Did the Obama State Department improperly share classified information with a Democrat Senator as part of an anti-Trump scheme?” asked Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “Needless to say, the Senate won’t be investigating Senator Cardin’s role in any potential violations of law, but Judicial Watch is going to federal court to do just that.”
Two faced hypocritical liberals want it both ways.
I have respect for Comey actually. He made the best of a bad situation and bad timing. Granted he’s a political animal like everyone else in DC, but I actually think he attempted to operate with some semblance of integrity, which is NOT what the rest of the snakes in the DC swamp do, both Dem and Rep.
Agreed. Went after Clinton and Trump. While he might had some competency issues, at least he had some level of integrity.
Except the “Trump investigation” is a counterintelligence investigation. The “Clinton investigation” is a criminal investigation.
The Trump camp was never going to be charged with a crime. The Clinton Crime Syndicate absolutely should have resulted in criminal charges, pursued by a prosecutor. Jim Comey (investigator) has no business deciding whether or not charges are filed.
Exactly: Comey was not a prosecutor (or judge); only an investigator who should have left prosecution decisions to a Grand Jury. I hear TV talking heads refer to Comey as a prosecutor all the time. They are idiots.
Comey completely mishandled the Clinton emails. The Democrats were correct to call for his dismissal. Unfortunately for them the next Director may handle this scandal properly.
You cannot say he operated with integrity. He went way beyond his pay grade, repeatedly, by addressing issues of prosecution, which is strictly not his role, but that of his supervising agency, the Attorney General’s Office. And in so doing he went even further outside his role by introducing issues that were not even a part of the law, such as his assumptions on intent.
The man was a disaster, he had single handedly destroyed the reputation of the FBI, and was destroying the trust of the American people in justice.
He should have been dispatched long ago.
So let’s get this straight:
1. Hillary was corrupt and bad. Evidence, Comey said so.
2. Hillary was more corrupt and bad. Evidence, Comey opened a new investigation at the 11th hour of the election. But then closed it. *
3. Trump wins the election, suddenly decides Hillary shouldn’t be locked up after all.
4. Comey gets a lot of criticism for his 11th hour ‘she’s under investigation, ohh wait nothing new here’ routine plus his call not to say anything about Russian investigations also happening at the 11th hour. But Trump opts not to fire him but keep him on.
5. Now Comey gets fired because….well it turns out he was mistreating Hillary!
And out of all of this nonsense, the person at fault is, of course, Obama because he didn’t fire Comey. Just keeping things straight.
* Ohhh yea, Hillary also had late stage Parkinson’s Disease. Remember that Mish? How is that assertion/prediction holding up in retrospect.
The human brain is a fascinatingly broken thing. Biases riddle it with blinders as you’ve shown above. We’re all susceptible though.
Mish will be eating his words over the next couple of weeks after Trump kicked the hornets’ nest apparently. It’ll be interesting to see what he says if that is the case.
Who knows though, maybe I’m the one who is blinded by bias. Although that Hillary post seems to show that Mish has definitely been blinded before.
Hillary Clinton is in fact suffering from stage 3 Parkinson’s disease. It’s why you don’t (and won’t) see her in public for any significant period of time, ever again.
She’ll be resting comfortably, heavily medicated for the rest of her natural life.
Once she dies however, it will be time for you to roll-out one of your horse-sh!t conspiracies that “she was assassinated”, so by all means, do enjoy that.
Ok.
By the way Mish, the reason Comey’s sacking is suspicious is because he was sacked by the person he was investigating (and/or his close team).
I appreciate you might think it’s nonsense but surely you can see how that looks?
After all, that’s exactly what Nixon did, so I think it’s fair enough to have suspicions.
https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/5/10/15603886/saturday-night-massacre-explained-nixon-watergate-archibald-cox
It is not “exactly what Nixon did”, Hurson, and your saying that indicates either ignorance or extreme bias: Cox was a Special Prosecutor looking into Nixon. Comey was an investigator, NOT a prosecutor, although he himself did not seem to understand that, which showed incompetence. Also getting rid of an incompetent FBI director does not end any ongoing investigations. Another thing: the Deputy Attorney General who recommended that Comey needed to be fired was first appointed by Obama, and recently approved by the Senate 94-6. The democrats like him. He is not considered to be politically biased.
I stated “he was sacked by the person he was investigating”.
Sorry CJ but that’s exactly what both Nixon and Trump did.
I appreciate they were in different positions though.
Sorry Hurson but that one detail does not make the situations exactly the same, not even similar. But keep watching CNN, it will provide you lots of confirmation bias.
She’s out and about giving speeches this week… you crazy right wingers don’t realize how crazy you look spouting this kind of crap. I was really sad to see Mish stoop so low, and I lost a lot of respect for him over these crazy claims. Everyone in government is freaked out by all the weird Russia stuff going on, and Mish wants to pretend it’s nothing, yet Clinton gets sick and stumbles after an event and suddenly they’re covering up her brain disease? Fucking stupid, seriously.
http://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-america-first-2017-5
” you crazy right wingers don’t realize how crazy you look spouting this kind of crap.”
Mirror time, Phil.
Looking in the mirror and seeing the imbecile you’re supporting with approval ratings somewhere around gonnohrea.
Dead on. “Blame Obama” is such a hilarious scapegoat these days. I know we had a lot of Blame Bush for years into Obama’s tenure.
But come on Mish. Wipe the fog off your lenses.
I stated the obvious
Comey protected Hillary – Originally
Broke a lot of rules to do it
He should have been fired
Mish
Did I miss something, when Comey released that faux reopening of a new investigation just weeks before the election. How did that protect Clinton? HC would be president today if she had just said no to Obama’s offer to be Sec of State. Well economics and politics do not mix, and today Stockman is bloviating about Trumps first smart move? Oi Vey
Nonsense. Your man’s stated reasons for firing Comey was not that he ‘protected’ Hillary but that he wronged Hillary. In fact he didn’t just wrong her, he committed ‘atrocities’.
BTW, if Hillary was ‘protected’ why is she not now being prosecuted? There’s no statute of limitations applicable here. If there’s such a clear cut case against her (and/or lots of other stuff that was covered up), there’s now nothing protecting her. Republican White House, hard right attorney general, Republican Congress and not even a large number of Democrats willing to fall on their sword to protect a Hillary who will probably never run again. If ever there was an opportune time for all the so-called truth to be revealed it is this. Yet nothing.
Face it, the US was sold a bill of goods in the last election
“This life, which had been the tomb of his virtue and of his honour, is but a walking shadow; a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

Off topic, Connecticut preps for bankruptcy.
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-05-10/connecticut-state-capital-prepares-bankruptcy-amid-collapse-hedge-fund-revenue
ZeroHedge is a Russian trollbot website, and there are a few comrades in here I think
davee is probably a DNC or Soros troll, since ZH is notoriously anti-liberal.
How do Russians and liberals go together?
They both seem to like socialism.
“The objective of socialism is communism” ~ V. Lenin
Russians and gangster capitalists go together, LIBERALS HATE RUSSIA, ergo Putin put his cyberhackers on her, and building up Trump. Hows the weather in Moscow by the way?
The comments here never disappoint!
Well, Russia certainly likes to muck with Visa and MasterCard. Somoene over at Rostelcom must have been drunk on Stoli when they did this incredibly stupid thing-don’t they know that nothing is secret on the Internet? Amateurs…..
The democrats are making fools of themselves keeping up their “Russia hacked the election, conspired with Trump team” tinfoil hat conspiracy nonsense. Head of NSA James Clapper said recently that the FBI and CIA have found no evidence of Russian involvement. Did you get that, democrats? ZERO EVIDENCE. Now just ignore that and go back to making fools of yourselves.
And BTW, changing the FBI director does not end any investigations in progress.
I don’t have any evidence that Maxine Waters colluded with Russia to have Hillary win the election but i know she’s guilty and should be impeached. I think that about sums up the Russian BS about the election. God forbid we try capital murder cases this way. got no evidence the defendant killed the deceased? Doesn’t matter we think he’s guilty and we want to convict and send him to the chair. I’m sure that every talking head on CNN will agree that is the was we dispense justice in Washington. Makes me shudder to think so many individuals have come to that type of thinking.
Should Comey have been fired? Yes. He job was to insure that the investigations being run by the FBI are done correctly and fully, no half measures. Did he do that? Apparently not. We may dive into his dealings more deeply by that serves little purpose. He proved his incompetence, he has been fired, so let him vanish from the political scene.
Readers might recall Comey last week saying mean and incorrect things about Huma Abedin, which might with a little more patience have led Democrats to ask for his replacement. Readers with more memory might recall if I recall correctly Politico claiming that intelligence committees had been reading the raw intercepts, desperately trying to find evidence of Russian activities of a bad sort, not being very successful, and being seriously alarmed at what their constituents would say when this was revealed.
Having said that, Clapper has a record of lying to Congress, for which he should have been impeached and removed from office, so his testimony is open to doubt.
Trump didn’t have to remove lying Clapper, he handed in his resignation the day Donald was inaugurated.
The Hillary case was politicized. That is the bottom line.
Comey broke protocol and Lynch did the same, meeting with Bill Clinton, while his wife was under investigation. If it had been any of us on this discussion board, we would not have had the same consideration.
Based on the evidence, the case should have been handed to a Grand Jury to determine whether to indict.
Along with the bankers, Hillary was held to be above the law.
This proves Trump is incapable of doing anything right as far as democrats are concerned. So are they defending Comey now? Guess that means they are also admitting he did the right thing with Clinton emails. This is hilarious to watch unfold.
If Trump walked on water, the democrats would say “see, he can’t even swim”.
CBS says that we should reject the argument that it would be stupid to fire Comey in an effort to stop the Russia/Trump investigation. Yes, they admit, it would be stupid, but they assert that we can accept that Trump did fire Comey to stop that investigation because Trump really is that stupid and thinks that it will work.
To paraphrase Twain: “If you don’t watch CBS, you are uninformed. If you do watch CBS, you are misinformed”.
Russia tampering with the election leads quite easily to Russian mob money being laundered thru NY real estate. Trump is totally mobbed up with the Russians just as he was with our good ole American mob in Atlantic City. Clintons, as with the Bush crime family, are smart enough to get good lawyers to paper over their grift. Trump was always the outsider in that world, so he had to take his money where he found it.
Pretty serious (or crazy) allegations there, John. Of course you will be posting your evidence here, right?
It’s kind of funny that democrats are being criticized for making an issue of this. After years of innuendo about Obama’s birth certificate, Benghazi, private servers, etc., of course democrats are going to adopt the same strategy as to Trump. It’s not any way to run a country, but republicans have shown that it works, and if they think it will stop now that their man is in the White House, they better think again.
So T fired the head of the serpent. Now, may he fire the rest of the Federales in that bureaucracy and shutter it. We didn’t need it before 1908, we don’t need it now.
The professor who predicted that Trump would be elected also predicts he will be impeached because he “likes to play fast and loose with the law..” He is in over his head, he even said “The job is hard”, and now should he avoid impeachment he will be unable to govern. More venal than Nixon, more ineffective than Carter. All he can do is push the button and start a nuclear war, and dimes to dollars they don’t let him near that either.
“More venal than Nixon, more ineffective than Carter. ” Well put.
And about the termination, timing does matter, not just the grounds. Presently, it appears that there are both legitimate and illegitimate reasons for the firing. And the apparent illegitimate reason – to impede investigation of the Administration – is too weighty to override the legitimate reasons – breach of traditional DOJ protocol, and general incompetency. So, Trump should have deferred firing, just as Obama did.
Just saw this about Healthcare reform: No wonder democrats hate the new healthcare proposal: it would reduce taxes on Americans by $1 trillion! Details here:
http://www.atr.org/list-obamacare-taxes-repealed#ixzz4gm54A8iW
It doesn’t mean that Trump is hiding something, it means he is obstructing justice because his ego won’t allow him to admit WHAT EVERYONE ALREADY KNOWS, the Russians interfered in the election. Our president would rather be a subject of political extortion, and now the Russians can offer proof that they did indeed hack some websites because they don’t care who wins, THEY JUST WANT TO SPREAD DOUBT AND DISTRUST in the American political system. Trump is playing right in their hands, and when the American system is in chaos they will have achieved their goal. The American people (or some of them) have been duped, had their emotions played and Trump might as well be their operative the way he is handling this.
davee’s latest rant should remove anyone’s doubt that he is either a DNC/Soros troll, or otherwise insane asylum inmates are now allowed internet access.
“WHAT EVERYONE ALREADY KNOWS, the Russians interfered in the election.”
…
Really?
How?
And I want SPECIFICS.
Let me get my popcorn first
Cyberhackers were influencing trending news on the social media sights, by manufacturing hits on websites critical of the socalled Deep State and Hillary Clinton. Much like websites manufacture clicks to get advertising revenue, this brought anti-American rhetoric to the top of the news feeds where the sheeple were able to get into the feeding frenzy. This much has already been revealed, again its not the direct connection, its the problem of foreign cyber hackers involved in the process, and that much seems obvious, the smoking gun is not the issue. You may very well be a troll, so this is for those who still don’t get it.
“the smoking gun is not the issue.”
…
Au Contraire
It is THE only issue I care about.
But then again I deal as best I can with facts … not innuendo / hearsay.
Anyways, your “cyberhacking” is performed by both sides.
Do you have a SHRED of EVIDENCE Russia behind ANYTHING?
You do realize that what you’re saying is that “everyone else out there (except you of course) is too stupid to think for themselves and therefore easily swayed by whatever is at the top of their news feed…so much so that attempting to manipulate those news feeds is tantamount to election tampering.”
You’re seeing a whole TEAM of psychiatrists aren’t you?
And for the record, the fact that about fifty percent of the voting-age population believes the same thing you do means there is little hope for the future.
Specifically, the ACA raised an additional 0.9 percent payroll tax on earnings and a 3.8 percent tax on net investment income (NII) for individuals with incomes exceeding $200,000 and couples with incomes exceeding $250,000.
So saying “it would reduce taxes on Americans by $1 trillion! ” would better be stated as “it would reduce taxes on the highest income 5% of Americans by $1 trillion!”
Jon, I don’t think you read Americans for Tax Reform article I linked. Please address your critique to the points of information provided there.
Really, what’s there to address? Essentially every one of those “taxes” primarily impact high income or high wealth individuals. Maybe the chronic care tax hits lower income folks, but that was more of an inducement to force people to get insurance.
I’m not in any way a fan of Obamacare, its morally reprehensible for a number of reasons, but let’s not kid ourselves into believing that the AHCA is anything but a tax cut for the wealthy.
Any reform of ObamaCare can be called a tax cut for the wealthy, since the wealthy have the highest burden of paying for it. But it’s not just the wealthy: it’s also the healthy being forced to pay for something they don’t want. Anyway I see lots of items in that list that are not just for the wealthy. One example: Obamacare’s 10% excise tax on small businesses with indoor tanning services. Maybe you need to go over that list again, Jon.
Suddenly we went from Trump firing his FBI director the day after he asked for more resources to investigate the claim of Russian meddling, then we switched to Obamacare.
Thanks for the FAKE NEWS, davee! I think you really believe that crap. Don’t read this, your head might explode:
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/justice-department-report-that-comey-asked-for-more-money-for-russia-probe-is-totally-false/article/2622678
But don’t worry, you won’t see that reported on CNN. Now go back to your safe space.
CJ,
I will stand by my assertion and agree to disagree.
Jon, I guess you missed it: I agreed with you! Any tempering of the socialist wealth redistribution tenets of Obamacare has to result in “tax cuts for the rich”.
Very disappointed you never answered my request for specific critique of any of the American Tax Reform points.
At least Obama attempted (with pie in the sky fuzzy math) to pay for ACA.
Stripping away means to pay for AHCA (an equal monstrosity) will blow the deficit / debt to the moon. CBO announced that it will release its score the week after next. I’ve seen numbers between $3 trillion and $5 trillion added to debt in next decade because of this bill.
Fiscal conservatives are extinct in DC. Republicans are even more irresponsible than the Democrats.
Comey was a flake.
During his public presentation on Hillary’s emails – he built a perfect case to recommend indictment all the way up to the end of his statement at which time he decided not to recommend indictment no good reason.
Of people we expect the FBI Director to adhere to his sworn oath and pursue justice. When politics supersedes justice we’re no better than a 3rd world banana republic.
he built a perfect case to recommend indictment
Yes. But he didn’t do it. Then he came up with a new investigation at the perfect time.
Incompetence or brilliance?
Regardless, he did this himself (with the help of Obama of course who could have fired Comey)
He said at the time their investigation was complete ” the case doesn’t meet the level of evidence to go ahead with a prosecution..” Then a week before the election he REOPENED the investigation based on new evidence which he never produced. The Russia meddling case is an ongoing INVESTIGATION, there is already evidence which has been released to the MSM which of course NO ONE HERE PAYS ANY ATTENTION because they are all a bunch of liberal media fake news, blah blah. The question is there a connection to the Trump campaign, which is where this is going, until Trump fired Comey.
You guys are still missing the point: It’s not the FBI director’s job to recommend indictment. That is a Grand Jury’s job. They make that determination, then it goes to a prosecutor and a judge. Comey went well beyond, outside of his job description. If you guys heard Judge Napolitano’s explanation of this, you would understand it better. It was a huge mistake by Comey.
You’re missing the point.
AG Loretta Lynch said that the final decision was with the FBI Director – so she did not decide. Comey did. Remember?
That’s just another thing Loretta Lynch has been wrong about. She was not empowered to put that responsibility on the Director of INVESTIGATION.
Wrong or not. Comey made the final decision. Not Lynch. You can’t blame Comey for recommending something. Lynch is the one who abrogated her duties. Comey followed procedure even though his conclusion was illogical and unjust. It was Lynch who really screwed up. But what would you expect? Obama was her boss.
Nope. Comey did not follow procedures, which BTW are clearly spelled out (obviously hardly anyone knows exactly what that is). Comey made a lot of other serious mistakes also, which were detailed by Hannity tonight.
Comey is but the most obvious piece of the Dark State pawns to be removed – Their are Bigger fish to be fried by the AG. As we move into summer it be become “How The (once) Mighty Have Fallen” – Big Heads are going to roll from PizzaGate to Ben Ghazi into the Fall.
As usual from this source a complete and balanced analysis:
I hereby predict the next DNC/CNN/NYT snowflake narrative: Acting FBI director McCabe is obviously controlled by the Russians:
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-05-11/mccabe-crushes-trump-interference-narrative-there-has-been-no-effort-impede-our-inve
game of thrones material.
comey trying to grab too much power. anyone remember J edgar?
comey thwarts Hilary. now investigating trump….I think trump found him scary and removed comey before comey could remove trump.
You are behind on the news, Beth. The acting FBI director testified today that all investigations continue unimpeded, and no one has tried to impede them. See the link to McCabe’s testimony I provided above.
Y’all are squabbling about Democrats, witch hunts etc when none of it matters. This isn’t an NFL game where you can hate the other team just because.
Russian groups have been hacking into computer systems of different for awhile now. Acting FBI director testified to Congress this morning, and this isn’t anything new. They’ve been investigating for at least a few years now.
Bottom line: a foreign group or country tried to mess with a number of election processes. The Intelligence Community is doing exactly what it is supposed to. Whether or not anyone thinks it’s a witch hunt is a moot point.
My take is that it was all a set up to insure Hilary wouldn’t be indicted. It was a planned event for Bill Clinton to meet with Loretta Lynch in Phoenix just so she would have an excuse to recuse herself and set up to patsy, Comey, to do the deed and take the fall. I don’t for a minute think this was just the acts of a bunch of bumbling idiots. I’m certain everyone thought, so long as she didn’t get indicted, Hilary would be the next POTUS. Any way, the honchos over at her beloved CFR “promised” her she would be the next POTUS.
Interesting theory there, lace. I suppose it’s possible Comey was set up as the patsy fall guy, especially since he passed on all of Hillary’s INDICTABLE FELONIES of which there are over a dozen, but continued to investigate Russian interference, for which there is no evidence. The Clintons are experts at that, having gotten away with it for decades now. But there’s a new sheriff in town now, and a new Attorney General, and a new FBI director, and it is going to get even more interesting. Is it possible that in the end it will turn out that some people are not above the law after all?
“Bottom line: a foreign group or country tried to mess with a number of election processes.”
Interesting you would know something the head of NSA does not know, Anon. He testified recently that there is NO EVIDENCE of Russian interference in American elections.
So, bottom line, y’all need to show your evidence.
Trump had a secret meeting (MSM not allowed) with Russian diplomats in the White House which was covered by Russian news agency Tass and the news footage viewed in Russia, which is how our media learned about it. Since all Russian diplomats are considered to be spies, this should raise some interest and now Trump is threatening Comey if he reveals their private conversations about the investigation. Depending on how world events play out, the president could hang for treason. This is pretty serious stuff.
OMG that’s so horrible! Our president met with foreign diplomats! What is trying to do, avoid going to war or something? He also met with a Russian right after firing Comey! Book ’em, Danno! Of course the MSM never reported that he also then met with a diplomat from the Ukraine, and he told the Russian and the Ukrainian that they are going o have to work things out. Bet you didn’t know that, did you davee? Oh the horror.
