Hysteria over Trump shifted into an even higher gear today, with Senators John McCain, Bob Corker, Lindsey Graham, Richard Blumenthal, and Richard J. Durbin all in on the hype following reports that Trump shared classified information with Russia.
The La Times reports Senators call report that Trump disclosed highly classified intelligence to Russians ‘appalling,’ ‘reckless’.
Comment Roundup
- “This conduct by the president is not only dangerous, it’s reckless,” said Sen. Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.), the assistant minority leader.
- “If true, deeply disturbing,” tweeted Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).
- “To compromise a source is something that you just don’t do,” said Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
- “If it’s true, it’d be troubling,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.)
- Colleagues chatting on the chamber floor as news broke were either “astonished or appalled,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.)
- “It is absolutely terrifying,” Blumenthal said. “It’s another example of the free press uncovering stuff that the American people should know that hopefully will cause an outcry and outrage that will have some cumulative effect in protecting our democracy.”
White House Out of Control
In addition, Corker stated Trump was out of control.
Schumer Demands Trump Hand Over Transcript of Meeting
Politico reports Schumer Demands Transcript of Trump-Russia Meeting.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) urged the White House to release unedited transcripts from President Donald Trump’s meeting with top Russian officials last week to Capitol Hill following reports that Trump shared highly classified information with the two men.
“Until the administration provides the unedited transcript, until the administration fully explains the facts of this case, the American people will rightly doubt if their president can handle our nation’s most closely kept secrets,” Schumer said in a floor speech Tuesday morning.
“If the reporting is accurate, in one fell swoop, the president could have unsettled our allies, emboldened our adversaries, endangered our military and intelligence officers the world over, and exposed our nation to greater risk,” Schumer said. “Given the gravity of the matter, we need to be able to quickly assess whether or not this report is true and what exactly was said.”
Impeachment
The super-hysterical were calling for impeachment.
- Fox News reports Congressional Dems making early calls for Trump’s impeachment
- Salon writer Matthew Rozsa says Impeachment may be a real possibility for Donald Trump
“Our mantra should be I.T.N—Impeach Trump Now,” said Rep. Al Green, D-Texas.
“President Trump is not above the law. He has committed an impeachable act and must be charged. To do otherwise would cause some Americans to lose respect for, and obedience to, our societal norms,” said Green.
High on Stupidity
Matthew Roza is high on something, most likely sheer stupidity. Rep Green is in outer space.
What exactly did Trump do?
Let’s start with what Trump did NOT do: Release classified information. The president can declassify anything he wants.
This is what he allegedly did do: Trump discussed with Russia, an ISIS plot to blow up planes with computers.
In response to the plot (the public knew about in March), airlines banned laptops from some transatlantic flight.
Yesterday, ABC News reported EU, US to meet Wednesday over in-flight laptop ban.
Too Much Classified Information?
I posed that question in Classified Bombshell Hyperventilation.
For the record, I disagree with Trump on NAFTA, free trade in general, the Wall, his immigration order, and numerous other things.
However, talking with Russia makes sense, warmongering with Russia over Syria doesn’t.
Question of the Day
People ought to be terrified when we don’t share information. Look at numerous terrorist attacks in Europe because countries did not share information and did not act on information that was shared.
Also look at the results when the NSA chose to hide vulnerabilities in the Windows operating system instead of sharing the findings with Microsoft.
For discussion, of what happens when you hide things, please consider WannaCry Cyber Attack Hits 99 Countries, FedEx, Nissan, Hospitals, Universities with NSA Developed Malware: Five Questions.
Here’s a followup post: Microsoft Blasts NSA, CIA for “Stockpiling Vulnerabilities”: Criminal Negligence by NSA?
In Praise of Talking
I praise Trump for talking with Russia. It’s one of few things he has done right. Ironically, it’s the thing he is most attacked over.
Thank the clueless media and clueless demagogues from both parties for the hype.
Those who find sharing ISIS information with Russia “Terrifying, Reckless, and Deeply Disturbing” need to get their heads out of their asses.

I wonder what the Cia NSA has on corker ? McCain? Lindsey ect ect ect
The voters surely see that we the people have zero to do with the way

Hardly ANY republicans in congress supported Trump and still don’t. We KNOW what is at risk here. Progressives are attempting to depose Trump and ANY idiotic republican that indicts Trump over meaningless bullshit and lies is to be condemned. These asshole KNOW what they are doing. They have been laying in wait for any and every opportunity to attack Trump, or at the very least diminish his credibility. Those in this meeting have STATED publicly to what they saw and heard and Corker, who was not there and knows NOTHING of what occurred, is opportunistically USING this issue, like so many others, to bring Trump down.
This is all an effort to use repeated lies and unproven (unprovable and not disprovable) to create the illusion of fact, a false consensus where people simply accept the narrative as fact, so they can use each and every contrived controversy as FURTHER PROOF of Trump’s crimes and malfeasance. This is all not for crybabies who simply cannot accept defeat. This is to keep these fires burning in wait for ANYTHING that could be used to ramp emotions to support an impeachment, just like what we see tonight with the new Comey revelation.
This will not stop. This will NEVER stop. The allegations made are impossible to disprove. They have already been disproved in that they have found no evidence of collusion in almost a year, yet ever louder screams for an independent council.
This is for effect. This is to take down Trump. Period.
**point of warning for gleeful progressives. If this is pursued to its end, it will end BADLY for EVERYONE…including YOU.**

This is exactly what democrat supporters said when Trump was elected.
It will end, it will end badly, and everyone will be hurt.
But almost most everyone needs to actually experience the pain before they understand.
This is clearly headed in the direction of an “I told you so” moment.
Trump will either survive this or he won’t. The worst case scenario is that he survives and we have a deeply divided republican party at war with itself and at war with the democrats and with the American people being the collateral damage.
The best thing that can happen is that republicans take this into their own hands and remove Trump from office. Love him or hate him he is doing more harm than good and has been since day one.
In my view everyone would be better off if we had a different president either democrat or republican. This circus cannot be allowed to continue.
Time to push the reset button. (if it were only that easy).
I expect that with the stock market starting to look a little peaked sanity might actually prevail in this. In a war between ideology and $, $ usually wins.

We are barely a couple of days removed from the WannaCry virus story, in which hackers used the virus to bring down computer systems around the world. The NSA knew about the vulnerabilities but did nothing to alert Microsoft about it.
Think about that. It’s already been swept from the news cycle because Trump talked to the Russians.

“Washington (CNN)The intelligence behind the US ban on laptops and other electronics is considered so highly classified that CNN, at the request of US government officials, withheld key details from a March 31 story on the travel restrictions.
Some of those details are once again at issue following The Washington Post report Monday night that President Donald Trump shared highly sensitive information with two top Russian diplomats in a meeting at the White House.
The concern, US officials told CNN in late March, was that publishing certain information, including a city where some of the intelligence was collected, could tip off adversaries about the sources and methods used to gather the intelligence.
Over several days, US intelligence officials spent hours on conference calls making specific requests to CNN to withhold certain details of the intelligence information.”

SAN FRANCISCO — Two Israeli intelligence officials confirmed to BuzzFeed News Tuesday that Israel had shared specific intelligence with the US regarding ISIS plots to smuggle explosive laptops onto planes, and that it appeared that that intelligence had been shared with Russia without prior coordination.
The revelation that Trump had shared that intelligence with Russian officials was Israel’s “worst fears confirmed,” said one of the intelligence officers.
“We have an arrangement with America which is unique to the world of intelligence sharing. We do not have this relationship with any other country,” said the officer, who spoke to BuzzFeed News on condition of anonymity as he was not granted permission to speak to the press.
“There is a special understanding of security cooperation between our countries,” he said. “To know that this intelligence is shared with others, without our prior knowledge? That is, for us, our worst fears confirmed.”
That’s what Donald J. Trump did when he talked with Russia.

But now they are devoted, they are on mission and will not fail. And NO story of negativity ever dies of fraud, at best it simply fades away after something better comes along. Every debunked story simply becomes part of the background narrative on Trump. Past refuted allegations are brought up again and again with a simple nod of acknowledgement implying truth without ever really having to say it. This is a deadly game for Trump…and for the whole country. If this is allowed to happen, If Trump is removed, America will have failed with serious consequences.

Vote? Really? An election being an advanced auction of stolen goods (HL Mencken , I believe, and he was a bit before his time)
Voting isn’t going to fix anything in a nation that has lost it’s moral compass. We are there now. Liberty requires sacrifice. No one is willing to offer that any longer.
The mission, should you choose to accept it is, when it all comes crashing down, try not to get any on ya,,,,or at least no more than a good shower will fix.
In short, this is the beginning of the end of Empire. Not an event,,,,but a long, slow process.

Voting is the only thing that will fix this, but not just in the voting booth. Our primary voting power comes through our pockets, what we choose to spend our money on, WHO and how much we decide to borrow from and for what. People with power did not just fall into it. They sold things to people. They loaned them money. We must accept the responsibility for our circumstances. Trump was a desperation vote because we KNOW we have screwed up. We KNOW we are in a tough spot and Trump is our “hail Mary” throw because we KNOW what Hillary would do…what she has already done, and where we will end up….and we are almost there. If we fail to vote…in the booth and with our money…responsibly, the only alternative left will be violence in the streets….Venezuela style. And make sure you have pets that are reasonably good tasting.
Otherwise lets just keep buying the good deal, the cheap imports, the low interest loans, our tech toys, the Amazon stuff that continually evaporates our jobs, and by all means the creative loans that make it all possible that ALL INCREASES our dependency on those who you want disposed of.

Yeah, well, ya got some problems there-and you need to start with you first. Are you ready to give up and throw away and not buy into the manufactured consent that has ensnared you and everyone else? Think about it …..
LikeLike
No, I think you should think about it. I have rejected the manufactured consent set forth by our consumerist, debt fueled society. I am still participating as a means of survival but fully recognize our challenges and recourse. I recognize that our constitution is the ONLY thing we have to retain our liberties WITHOUT violence. If we assume those liberties cannot be retained through economic and political action, then violence is all we have and that has always been our fallback in the past. Death may be inevitable, bit that does not mean we should hurry it along. I agree that we MUST work from the bottom up and involve citizens into our local politics, but at this point I fail to see how this is possible given that the progressive media, regardless of how small the community, STILL controls us. Best we starve them to death. Then VOTE.

At this point, elections are purchased by the high bidder. This is no longer a democracy. It is a corporatocracy. Unfortunately,,,or maybe fortunately, I don’t know,,,,the only thing that will undo this corrupt mess is some old fashioned blood letting.
Jefferson was probably spot on when he stated “A little rebellion now and then is a good thing.”

I think a lot of folks here are selling the American people short. It is quite obvious that the media and most of Washington are against Trump. Everything he does is blown out of proportion and painted in the worst terms. Everyone I talk to sees the hate and the bias of the media and the SWAMP. Impeaching Trump would be the death knell of the Republican party.

Exactly what I said to the RNC. The DNC will make the midterms all about getting the vote out to impeach trump. Let’s see how that turns out.

You keep stating the president can declassify anything he wants. So if he has declassified it, how come the only people who now newly have the information are the people in the room, in particular the Russians? Why isn’t the press publishing it for all Americans.
Also if you disagree with Trump’s judgement on so many things, what makes you think his judgement on declassifying this information is sound? Do you know what the information was?

This is the progressive mantra, if we don’t agree then you must be stupid and irrelevant on all subjects. If you don’t agree with Trump on trade, then it is impossible he could be right on anything else.
Most of us have information that while not be state’s secrets, we would still rather keep among friends. Your assumption is that if it is not top secret, it should be published in the NYTs?
And see this is the thing, as Alan tells us….JUDGEMENT is the problem. If we disagree about anything then that implies your judgement is flawed.period. We see this a lot. Judgement becomes a blanket word the encompasses everything. No one questioned Obama’s judgement when he said or did something stupid. It was the exception and irrelevant…because they wanted it to be. Now Trump’s judgement is flawed because he had two scoops of ice cream. His judgment is flawed because he hired someone, and flawed again when he fired them, and flawed again in how he did it and flawed again as to his timing. Trump is has FLAWED JUDGEMENT is the story…always has been and will continue.
Sadly the useful progressive idiots have no idea of how they are being directed in their thinking. They truly believe this crap because it has been preached nonstop for months now, Rachel Maddow almost whispering it in their ear as they sleep. Every station, every talking head, every comedian and performer at every opportunity TELLING them what to think. And then we have Hillary and Soros and so many other groups organizing publicly and privately declaring their intent to impede and resist and EVICT Trump. The sound is deafening for anyone listening to what they say, but for the habitually progressive it is music to their ears.

Here’s the problem I have: your analysis is correct, but your focusing on the wrong issue. You always have to assume the worst case scenario as the former chairman of Intel Andy Grove stated: “Only the paranoid survive.” What we Know: Trump disclosed sensitive information about intelligence on ISIS to the Russians. There are media reports that state that the source of this information came from Israel (WSJ). Back In January, the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper in Israel reported that US intelligence officials warned their Israeli counterparts that Trump’s ties to Russia could pose a security threat, and described a meeting between US and Israeli intelligence officials in which the Americans indicated to Israel they should be cautious in sharing information with Trump’s White House. The paper reported that the Americans assessed that Russia had some kind of leverage over Trump, but did not go into details……

I see you quoted Pat Buchanan in your reply to me. Please…Pat Buchanan is part of the reason why we’re in the mess we are today. And Pat Buchanan is not a lawyer. Here’s what a real lawyer thinks: I have been working on a law review article titled Justice Department Independence and White House Control. I argue that when Congress established the law giving rise to the prosecutorial function, the Take Care Clause commands that the President protect the integrity of prosecutorial, law enforcement, and intelligence functions from political interference. That principle would be even more acute when the investigation requires protection from the President himself. The Comey memorandum, if it exists, would document a White House policy violation of constitutional dimensions.

If this Trump-Russia leak is a real coup attempt, maybe Trump should consider getting out-surely this has already been expressed. With all the hate, he probably won’t be able to recover to effectively lead the nation. Believe me having Trump go and Pence move in is the very last thing that the media, the liberal progressive left, the academic community, and Hollywood want to happen. They want Trump to twist slowly in the wind at least until the congressional elections. Too soon to let Pence come in and turn things around.

it ought to be apparent to level headed people that most of the MSM, especially WaPo, NYT and CNN are failing as businesses AND that the political establishment (a.k.a. “the swamp”) is using politics to preserve their out of date and failed dogma existence.
Politics of the swamp is based on lies, deceit and innuendo to light fires that prevent the enactment of the policies, ideas and themes for which Trump was elected.
Fire 1, set another fire to the one that should have seen Clinton, Podesta and other leading Democrats go to jail over allowing a sexual pervert (Weiner) to read and print State department secrets. this fire to release completely fabircated lies over discussions of secret meetings and protest about the sacking of Comey.
Fire 2, set aother fire to the one that saw the national debt increase by 1 trillion dollars a year over 8 years by preventing any plans that Trump might have to balance trade and hence close the fiscal deficit (in GDP terms the accounting identity of C + G + i + (X-M ) means that (X-M) = G ).
Fire 3 – pretend that “the swamp” represents the wishes of legitimate US voters living in the sanctuary cities and not drawing welfare benefits, when the oppoiste is true. The marginal Democrat base is (coincidentally?) strongest in sanctuary cities with high illegal immigrant populations drawing welfare.
Fire 4 – pretend that democrats represent the interests of minorities, especially women and blacks, when in fact Democrats have done nothing to raise the opportunities to these minorities and societal improvements have occurred DESPITE the democrats not because of them.
Fire 5. the democrats pretend they have a strategy beyond “tax and spend”, essentially taking money from republicans and spending it on minorities that the democrats create and idolize, in order to get “locked in” votes for generations.
this is the smoke that the democrats and their MSM sponsors within the swamp are claimingare “fires” – they are not fires and the smoke is coming from bombs planted by the swamp in order to prevent th eimplementation of policy that rolls back the corruption of decades of swamp dweller politics.
the more smoke there is, the less policy will get implemented and the more the US sinks into the swamp of the democrats socialist thinking.
