The absurd hysteria over Russia continues today from yours and my favorite Russia-hysteria promotion site: the Washington Post.
Fake News For Your Eyes Only
Today’s joke of the day is an “exclusive” fake-news story from WaPo regarding Obama’s Secret Struggle to Punish Russia for Putin’s Election Assault.
Early last August, an envelope with extraordinary handling restrictions arrived at the White House. Sent by courier from the CIA, it carried “eyes only” instructions that its contents be shown to just four people: President Barack Obama and three senior aides.
Inside was an intelligence bombshell, a report drawn from sourcing deep inside the Russian government that detailed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s direct involvement in a cyber campaign to disrupt and discredit the U.S. presidential race.
But it went further. The intelligence captured Putin’s specific instructions on the operation’s audacious objectives — defeat or at least damage the Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, and help elect her opponent, Donald Trump.
The material was so sensitive that CIA Director John Brennan kept it out of the President’s Daily Brief, concerned that even that restricted report’s distribution was too broad. The CIA package came with instructions that it be returned immediately after it was read. To guard against leaks, subsequent meetings in the Situation Room followed the same protocols as planning sessions for the Osama bin Laden raid.
Obama told Putin that “we knew what he was doing and [he] better stop or else,” according to a senior aide who subsequently spoke with Obama. Putin responded by demanding proof and accusing the United States of interfering in Russia’s internal affairs.
The Washington Post is withholding some details of the intelligence at the request of the U.S. government.
Detailed Timeline of Allegations
In its “exclusive” fake news article, WaPo provided a detailed timeline of every allegation. It provided zero proof of anything.
WaPo even mocked Wikileaks for demanding proof.
Shhhh! It’s TOP Secret
Putin demanded proof. None was offered. None exists.
Conveniently, WaPo is “withholding some details of the intelligence at the request of the U.S. government.”
Questions Abound
It would seem to me that an organization whose main purpose these days is to bring down the Trump administration would provide details to help that cause.
- Why is WaPo holding back publishing details that would be damaging to Trump?
- Did WaPo get its hands on a document given only to the president and three others, then immediately returned to the CIA? If so, how?
- Since the US meddles in elections, why should we be so outraged if other countries do the same?
- What right is it of the CIA to demand the president return documents to the CIA after the president reads them?
- Who is the CIA protecting?
Shhhh! It’s TOP Secret
Putin demanded proof. None was offered. None exists.
Question number five gets to the heart of the matter.
Who is the CIA Protecting?
Please consider the June 20, 2017, Foreign Policy Report 64 Years Later, CIA Finally Releases Details of Iranian Coup.
Declassified documents released last week shed light on the Central Intelligence Agency’s central role in the 1953 coup that brought down Iranian Prime Minister Muhammad Mossadegh, fueling a surge of nationalism which culminated in the 1979 Iranian Revolution and poisoning U.S.-Iran relations into the 21st century.
In early 1951, amid great popular acclaim, Mossadegh nationalized Iran’s oil industry. A fuming United Kingdom began conspiring with U.S. intelligence services to overthrow Mossadegh and restore the monarchy under the shah.
The coup attempt began on August 15 but was swiftly thwarted. Mossadegh made dozens of arrests. Gen. Fazlollah Zahedi, a top conspirator, went into hiding, and the shah fled the country.
The CIA, believing the coup to have failed, called it off.
“Operation has been tried and failed and we should not participate in any operation against Mossadegh which could be traced back to US,” CIA headquarters wrote to its station chief in Iran in a newly declassified cable sent on Aug. 18, 1953. “Operations against Mossadegh should be discontinued.”
That is the cable which Kermit Roosevelt, top CIA officer in Iran, purportedly and famously ignored.
Believe the CIA? Really?
Fake News Purveyors
The biggest purveyors of fake news on Russia are the Washington Post and CNN.
The Hill commented Obama official: We ‘choked’ on Russia response.
Obama’s deputy national security adviser, Ben Rhodes, complained the Russians were “playing this much bigger game which included elements like released hacked materials, political propaganda and propagating fake news, which they’d pursued in other countries.”
Bonus Questions
What did Wikileaks publish other than the truth? If that helped Trump, so what?
At least it was not a pack of CIA lies.
The ultimate irony in this never-ending fake news saga is the US has meddled in far more elections and in far worse ways than probing DNC servers even if Putin was personally involved.

Now that instills confidence that everything is on the up and up — google Seymour Hersh: Bin Laden killing story a fantasy. Dumping bin Laden at sea, to protect “sources and methods”
The goings-on with Democratic operatives, that include most of the MSM and Comey, amongst others, is simply breathtaking.
Yesterday Comey, who is the main witness of a special prosecutor investigation, was photographed going into the NYT building. This sent alarm bells that he was leaking again to the NYT.
But what actually happened is much worse. He visited Covington & Burling auspiciously for a charity function photo-op – with children. How nice, right?
Covington & Burling appears to be the main engine room for the Democratic party battle with Trump. Ex AG Eric Holder now works for them (again) and has been engaged by the State of California specifically to fight President Trump. This has been revealed by Judicial Watch.
Look up Covington & Burling – they are a very powerful DC firm that was tightly integrated with/throughout the Obama administration. Lots of revolving doors there – and at high levels.
So what was Comey leaking to them? Must have been something big – could not be transmitted by telephone or email – only face to face. Will anyone raise concerns about it? From the MSM …. crickets.
Comey has shown that he will not hesitate to leak. In fact he boasted of it in Congressional testimony. In my opinion, he has now become an imminent threat to the security of the country.
Hitlary and the Dems far out spent Trump on the election. Maybe they are just angry that the Russian propaganda was far more effective than theirs. That is sarcasm. I must be a deep Russian agent because I said prior to 2008 that no way would Hitlary every be president of the US. Caligula’s horse was more qualified for its Senate position than Commie Hitlary was qualified to be POTUS. I watch patiently as the Democratic party sinks into the toilet of history.
“I watch patiently as the Democratic party sinks into the toilet of history.”
Can’t disagree with your prognosis, but what worries me is that they appear to have no qualms about bringing down the United States with them.
But it is not good to have just a one party system either.
The whole RussiaGate has one thing going for it that the 9/11 story did not: It could theoretically have happened.

OK — we start with clear understanding that Russia throwing the US Presidential election to Trump is a little less credible than Al Gore’s Anthropogenic Global Warming fantasy. But let’s follow on with the obvious question that all the Leftie “Resisters” have not been asked:
If you prove that Russia committed an Act of War by interfering in a US election, what are you going to do about it? Nuke Russia? Burst into tears and cry that life is unfair? Get the UN Security Council to condemn Russia? (Oops! Russia has a veto — maybe tears will be a Democrat’s best response; works for women all the time).
This is the guy I follow for Washington propaganda news. He’s former Breitbart, now independent with White House press pass. He has all the proof and is pulling together funds for a video on how all this was done by the Ukraine/Soros/Clinton.
If your guy was truly independent he would most likely not have a WH press pass. The WH press corps is staffed with shills & whores, and during the GWB administration a gay prostitute posing as press.
… but then, you don’t even know who he is or seen any of his journalism.

Since when is interfering in someone else’s elections an act of war? The US has shown that it is nothing more than day to day policy for that leader of global morality and exceptionalism, the USA. So why is it an act of war if someone else follows our lead? WE taught the rest of the world most of the dirty tricks that they know. Even if Russia involvement is categorically proven to be true, I will not accept from our government that this constitutes an act of war. It was government who tried to float the idea that it was such and anything the government says is a brainwashing lie. Why anyone even listens to these “people” anymore is beyond me. They are simply a criminal enterprise which has installed themselves as our masters because we, in aggregate have been made docile by better living conditions than we earned, all paid for with debt. When the good living conditions wane and then evaporate in locked step with US repudiation of our debt (and therefore inability to take on more to fund our lifestyle) the docility will evaporate and the government is going down.
Maybe those in government and media should have their prefrontal cortex scanned for gray matter/white matter ratios.

WaPo is slowly turning batshit crazy.
Slowly?
At some point in the early 1980s, soviet citizens treated Pravda like a comedy rag.
We might be on similar trajectory
Otherwise known as the Bezos effect.
Surprised you did not include NYT in your fake news list, Mish. Comey slated them in his testimony.
Freedom of the press does not cover acts of treason.
WaPo is trying to overthrow the rightfully elected president of the United States. If they had evidence, it should have been disclosed months ago (preferably BEFORE the election). If they had evidence, and Obama didn’t act on it, Obama committed treason too (if he saw evidence and didn’t act on it).
WaPo editors have committed treason and should be arrested and charged. Bezos too.
Is it treason if they are acting at the behest of the “intelligence community” and are taking money and favours?
yes it is
This is where sensible readers decide:
I like Mish on the mechanics of the economy
I think Mish has a tin foil hat in his drawer that he takes out every so often
I agree, started reading Mish several years ago because I like his views on economics and even where I disagree a small bit like on Unions he puts in links to data and sources to back up his views.
I wish he would leave politics alone except in cases where it directly affects economics.
The comments are a joke for the most part!
“The comments are a joke for the most part!”
I know – we are now being accused of being paid trolls because we don’t ascribe to right wing conspiracy theories.
Fecking hilarious!
I certainly hope it’s “fecking hilarious”, because if it’s not,you have a total lack of self-awareness!
The economy is a government run government created casino that is far more fake than the Fake Stream Media. Government is the main driving force for the economy and society has, unfortunately, devolved because of its corrupting influence.
BTW, are you a government or Soros troll because no one is forcing you to read the political based posts?
Well, I started posting at Mish’s a decade ago and I am quite certain we covered every topic possible. Tin foil hat? LOL! That’s pretty rich. Fact is, avoiding politics is laughable in this Orwellian environment. Only a complete idiot, fool or troll would suggest otherwise.
Aloha Mish and to any old timers still around here. I’m still banging away over at Zero Hedge with the crazies where some of Mish’s articles are featured.
Btw, I agree with you. Posting to the comments above you.
You’re a loon.
And you’re too stupid to realize my comment was only addressed to you.
The mechanics of the economy you say? It used to be known as political economy. Progressively they managed to turn the subject matter into something allegedly technocratic, lots of math, no history, and purportedly no politics in the prescriptions. This is a foil for turning economists into the priests of the status quo. Everything about the economy is political and boils down to choices of what is worth doing and what is not, what is valuable, and what is not. The whole system of information and statistics (NIPA) is grounded in a certain ideology and a bunch of assumptions: Nipa statistics mean you cannot tell the difference between servicing debt and investment [reason why interest expenses are untaxed]. You cannot tell the difference between earnings from production and rents from speculation. etcetc.
Au contraire. Despite not sharing Mish’s politics, I find that his take on many aspects of foreign policy and other political matters to be refreshing compared to the official narratives foisted on us.
So, because: shut up.
Congress should DEMAND to be briefed on this super-special super-secret “intelligence” which supposedly proves that Putin gave the order to manipulate the US election in favor of Trump.
It is highly suspicious that Brennan went to great lengths to minimize the number of people that could look at this “intelligence”. He may have tried to manipulate the President and not be accountable for this manipulation.
This should be INVESTIGATED.
We need to investigate the “investigators”.
I demand to be briefed on the issues, and I want to know the sources of the information, What do you think I am…a child..I have a mind, and, I can make decisions on my own, thank you…I do not need the news media to try to make up my mind for me…!!!
Putin should sue WaPo for libel. Will force full disclosure and force WaPo to provide sources or pay up and shut up.
Shame on you for reading WaPo.
Shame on anyone who still reads that trash.
They think we are all morons.
They only need 51% morons,
Ha! 50.01% 😉
… or maybe 45% + 5.0001% illegals
The feeble-minded may be divided into: (1) Those who are totally arrested before the age of three so that they show the attainment of a two-year-old child or less; these are the idiots. (2) Those so retarded that they become permanently arrested between the ages of three and seven; these are imbeciles. (3) Those so retarded that they become arrested between the ages of seven and twelve; these were formerly called feeble-minded, the same term that is applied to the whole group. We are now proposing to call them morons, this word being the Greek for “fool.” The English word “fool” as formerly used describes exactly this grade of child–one who is deficient in judgment or sense. [Henry H. Goddard, in “Journal of Proceedings and Addresses” of the National Education Association of the United States, July 1910]
Mish, could we say this WAPO story is a “slam dunk”?
We can clearly state, in a court of law, that WaPo is an instrument of a foreign power intended on overthrowing the elected President of the United States.
We can clearly state that WaPo is guilty of treason. We should arrest and charge the editors with treason.
Every day life in imperial city looks more and more like “bread and circuses “
I’ve spoken to many Hillary voters. Not one said he or she was contacted by a Russian agent prior to the elections and extorted to vote for Trump.
Where are all these Hillary fans who were forced to change their votes for Trump?
The US accusing Russia of interfering with foreign elections is sort of like Frankenstein accusing Dracula of being an a-hole.
They are willing to throw even Obama under the bus to “prove” Trump is illegitimate. This is about the progressive survival. Do not doubt how far they are willing to go. These latest special elections have proven a disaster yet they have been relatively silent, but do not doubt this puts even more desperation in their actions. They are losing seats everywhere and if Trump can hang on they are going to be set back fifty years.
Expect this to only get worse.
Okay, but Donna Brazile and Debbie Wasserman Schultz still want their jobs back.
Brennan and Comey ought both be led away in handcuffs, but it just shows how much swag the Deep Statists have.
Democrats were certain they could win. CIA was certain it had enough extortion on government. Both committed heinous crimes. Comes the Trump! He is squeaky clean and he means to clean house.
Let’s assume this information is true for one minute: if the CIA had intel stating that Putin said this or that about what Russia’s CIA was going or should do about the USA election,…..then, why did the CIA wait so long to tell Pres. Obama???
If I knew my neighbor was making a bomb to set off under the bleachers of the local high school football game, would it be prudent to wait a week or a month or three months to make the knowledge known… Seems to me that the Obama CIA screwed up the issue of Russia and the election way before we heard about it…
If Obama had evidence of Trump being a Russian agent, and didn’t act on that info, then Obama is guilty of treason and should be executed. I am no Obama fan, not by a long shot, but even as corrupt as Obama is, I can’t believe the guy wouldn’t take advantage of information to throw the US election “his” way …. if he had any evidence.
If agents of the CIA had evidence against Trump, they had and have both a professional and a patriotic duty to present that evidence to the public. Any CIA agent who had such info and didn’t make sure the public knew — is guilty of treason and should face execution.
Lets stop this nonsense right now. If Trump is a Russian agent, lets see the evidence NOW and get him removed from office NOW. But if this year long horsesh!t acts of treason at WaPo prove to be as unsupported as their own publication suggests — the editors of WaPo have committed treason and should face execution. Freedom of the Press does not cover acts of treason.
WaPo has pushed this way too far, and its editors must be held accountable for their treason. Time for them to put up or be shut up permanently.
I agree that they need to lay their cards on the table once and for all. It’s “put up or shut up” time, and the actions of the “resistance” against a legally elected POTUS certainly qualify as treasonous in my book.
When discussing this topic with the legions of progressives I’m surrounded by in SoCal (who are almost unanimous in their mouth-frothing shreiks that Trump is “proven” to be a Russian puppet), I’m often asked “why would WaPo lie”? After stifling my look of incredulity that i have to explain that the media has centuries of track record of NOT being unbiased in such matters, I simply point out that Bezos (now the world’s 2nd richest man) owns WaPo, and Trump commented more than a year ago that Amazon had serious anti-trust issues.
Is that motivation enough? I have yet to receive a coherent response.

They work to build consensus…create consensus, FAKE consensus. They repeat the lies long enough that they can claim the lies to be true SIMPLY because so many believe the lies….because they have been repeated continuously.
They are CREATING facts by claiming that if enough people BELIEVE it to be true,it IS true. This is their PROOF of climate change….CONSENSUS.
Anonymous sources have more credibility that the president, the secretary of state or any other official of the Trump administration.
This is worse than a coup. This is not just the removal of a president. This is usurping truth itself, the blatant proof that facts no longer matter, that only agenda, ideology, POWER matter. All things are justifiable……abrogation to advance the cause, even if the actions to do so defy EVERY value their ideology is platformed on.
This is bad….very bad.
Mueller is a paid swamp dweller hit man. With all the funds congress awarded him to launch the investigation he’s obligated to bring Trump down – even if he has to manufacture the evidence to do it. If Mueller came up empty his name would be mud up and down the beltway. The DC insiders would ruin him. He wouldn’t be able to land a security guard job anywhere on the east coast. He knows his future is on the line and if Trump is left standing his future is toast.
Fake news is dangerous. People believe it. Marginal people act on it.
Ignorance is dangerous.
Congress cites WaPo stories in its hearings like it is gospel delivered by God. I noticed McCain citing WaPo in Jeff Sessions hearing. In other words, WaPo is a communication channel by which Deep State players convey agendas and manipulate Congress to attain agendas. Very Pavlovian inside game going on. WaPo publishes, and Congress salivates like dogs responding to their Deep-State Masters. Elections are usually irrelevant to Deep State and ruling elites, but every once in a while you get a president like JFK who feels he was elected by the people to govern. Obama did what his Deep State handlers told him to do, stuck to the teleprompter script, etc. Trump acts like the boss, not the supplicant. Which is why the geographic majority via the electoral college voted Trump. Ukraine tried to influence against Trump and for Clinton, and whatever Russia may or may not have done was not what made people in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, et al. vote Trump. To imply that it was is more than idiocy, it is a purposeful lie by vested interests.
Obviously, DNC/Deep State/War Party Neo-con goal is to demonize Russia and ratchet up the war against Russia. Fake news is an old game, perhaps even ancient. In the absence of real and credible evidence, creating “fake news” via “secret cannot be revealed sources” leaked to WaPo, NYT, CNN et al. will suffice splendidly. Examples include LBJ’s Gulf of Tonkin fraud to justify escalating Vietnam War, Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction fraud delivered to UN by Sec of State Coleman Powell justifying Bush II’s Iraq War II, etc. Repeat a lie often enough, and people will come to believe it. That is a timeless truth, and it is the WaPo and MSM modus operandi against Russia and Trump. It is aimed mainly at Congress. The majority of the USA does not believe it.
Once I read “fake news” I expect a heavy handed defense of Trump is coming up and this was no exception.
Lets let this play out before we shoot the piano player, give WAPO and others a chance to defend or refute what they’ve reported. The idea that the CIA wouldn’t permit the President to keep a copy of the super secret report is preposterous, the President is the President, he doesn’t report to CIA.
The irony is that even though Russian tampering in the election may never be proven in the legal sense the Muller and FBI investigations will probably uncover criminality by Flynn, Monafort and Clown Prince Jared.
Let WAPO. Defend or refute all the other fake news that they have reported and proven false?
And as far as “proving” criminality, do you believe you could stand up to the full weight and motives of a hostile special prosecutor tasked with your indictment? Depends doesn’t it, like if you are a Clinton or not?
What we have is a banana republic that uses “law” as a discretionary weapon for political purposes, and when that fails, pursues revolutionary coup to attain the power they can achieve in no other way.
After the parade of KNOWN criminals through our government, I would be inclined to give Flynn a medal rather than indictment.
After months of investigations and unprecedented “leaks” WAPO nor anyone else has presented one FACT or piece of evidence of a crime. Nada, nothing, zip.
Evidence/facts supporting an investigation aren’t strewn like confetti along a parade route. The fact that nobody has been charged yet is not proof of innocence, something you and Trump don’t “get”. For an educated man, Trump has little understanding of how our criminal legal system works.
You don’t trust the free press and you don’t trust the legal system and the MSM has kept the revolutionary coup secret so far, good thing you were wearing your tin foil hat and picked up the coup news.
“Evidence/facts supporting an investigation aren’t strewn like confetti along a parade route.”
Unsupported assertions are, however, being strewn like confetti. Although that’s not really the best analogy. We are being coated with giant buckets full of unsupported assertion ordure. It’s hard to get clean after reading a million ugly unsupported rumors.
“You don’t trust the free press”
I would hardly count the WAPO, which has a $600 million data contract with the CIA, as the free press.
I’m not supporting Trump; I simply wish we had news – with real humans who are willing to be quoted – who are providing some tangible evidence – instead of breathless gossip from some rich guy with a political agenda and deep state support.
“give WAPO and others a chance to defend or refute what they’ve reported”
The WAPO has by now published innumerable stories without any evidence of the truth of their contents other than the claim that some “leaker” told them something. They never, ever provide any real evidence. There is no reason to think they will start providing real evidence. They are simply a propaganda arm of the CIA.
Also, they smear legitimate journalists like Yves at Naked Capitalism (remember “Propornot, which the the WAPO promoted? http://www.propornot.com/p/home.html)(it is funny; if you google “propornot” you will get the parody site which Yves created, since they were too stupid to buy the .org domain name).
They are not a real newspaper!! They have no interest in being a real newspaper. If you wait for them to provide evidence, you will have a very long wait. It is not their role.
@clark — ““give WAPO and others a chance to defend or refute what they’ve reported”
They have been making accusations now for more than a year. If they had evidence (they obviously don’t), something should have come out by now.
WaPo is now claiming they have something (unspecified) leaked to them by members of US intelligence agencies. Intelligence agents are subject to military law — if they had evidence that the Commander in Chief was helping Russia, they are required to report it. They also have to tread very carefully about accusing an officer of misconduct — especially when the accusations are applied to both Obama and Trump.
Did Obama have evidence (not a secret smear folder from a discredited MI6 dropout — actual evidence) that Trump was a Russian agent or was being blackmailed or bankrolled by Russia? If Obama had such info, why would he withhold it? Why wouldn’t Obama essentially hand the election to Hillary by releasing evidence (if it existed)? Why would Obama violate the oath of office (committing treason himself)?
WaPo has gone way way way out on a limb now — implicitly accusing Obama and explicitly accusing Trump. If WaPo has evidence, they had better convict Obama and Trump quickly.
More groundless innuendos are going to get Bezos and WaPo editors in prison (or in front of a firing squad) for treason
I read the WaPo every day. This story is just the tip of the iceberg. The entire paper, including sports and weather, are anti-Trump. The readers buy it all hook line and sinker and they accuse anyone who questions the WaPo as either being a russian spy or dumb. By their definition, anyone who voted for Trump is an imbecile.
Probably a foreign controlled propaganda mouthpiece being used to bring down the USA then.
The Washington Post is getting harder and harder to read … way over the top.
Did anyone else notice what they recently added to the The Washington Post masthead?
“Democracy Dies In Darkness”

Lights Out for them
I was laughing so hard after reading this excellent piece by Mike that it hurts. I have come to think of WaPo as Der Sturmer and the NYT as Der Angriff. Fabricators, serial liars and propaganda agitators. But not news journalist organizations of any sort.
http://truthstreammedia.com/2015/01/14/1975-video-cia-admits-to-congress-the-agency-uses-mainstream-media-to-distribute-disinfo/
We know the CIA places agents in newsrooms, it’s standard practice when trying to meddle in other country’s affairs to screw around with news reports. We know that the CIA screws around with elections the world over. And we know most bureaucrats think they know better than the rest of us.
Why is it such a stretch to think they’ve unleashed the dogs on the American people? Because they’re the “good guys?” Because The Law™ tells them they can’t? Seems to me if the entirety of the system is against an outsider, especially one viewed as an incompetent joke, the green light to do whatever it takes to discredit him in the eyes of the Americans is just fine with the bureaucracy in Langley.
Rigging elections in other countries is one thing — the CIA may or may not have sanctioned those “activities”.
But rigging elections in the USA? We are talking about CIA officers — subject to military law — implicitly accusing Obama of withholding evidence and violating his oath of office, and explicitly accusing Trump of being a foreign agent.
WaPo probably isn’t going to survive this nonsense, its done as a newspaper. The questions now are whether Bezos survives Treason charges, and whether some agents of the CIA end up “disappearing”.
Accusing two Commanders in Chief is a big big big thing — and if they had evidence they would have made it public while they had the chance.
Now that the “Fake News” mantra has become the buzz word they will use it as a mask to conceal even more evil acts. Such as they used “terrorism” and other mental trigger words.
My anonymous source tell me that the whole CNN/WaPo/NYT Russia Gate story is a bunch of BS and hot air.
It’s pretty bad when I have as much confidence in MSM news as I do a story in the National Enquirer. I have lost what little confidence I had in our country. Politicians and news commentators are acting like a bunch of children. Things will not get better with these people running our news and country. What a shallow group of self absorbed people who haven’t a clue of what is really going on in America.
Maybe the question should be, who wasn’t interfering in our presidential election?
Obama had government resources at his disposal. The MSM was colluding with the Hillary campaign. The DNC colluded with Hillary against Sanders. The Republican party establishment interfered against Trump.
Pollsters were over sampling democrats in an attempt to suppress support for Trump.
Who in this country with any power, was actually in favor of a free and fair election?
More so than any eventual “outcome” of this silliness: What’s important to the flyers of the progressive drones (on both sides of the aisle), is that the circus helps further the illusion that what is important in the world, is what one supposed “leader” says and does to another.
I.e., the whole childish show keeps padding up under the central progressive delusion that there exists a special class of people that are “important”, and that all that matters in the world, revolves around what one of those clowns supposedly say or do. With “your” job being limited to bend over, fork over and lay down for those clowns. While, at most, picking one or the other to mindlessly pump your fist and cheer for.
The Somalis figured that joke out over twenty years ago (As did Zapata a century before them, and the US Founders a century before him again….), and responded accordingly; but it looks like our current homegrown drone armies aren’t quite so quick on the uptake. Instead being happy to pump their fists for “their” Great Leader, who The Man on TV says are saving them from all the baaaad hobgoblin Great Leaders those others pump their fists for….
The Deep State is in control, pretty much always has been. Pols are simply the front men elected by and thereby validated in the minds of the proles using the funds and coverage provided by those who actually call the shots – corporations and the 0.01%.
“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country… We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of… In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons… who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind.” – Edward Bernays in his classic text “Propaganda” – 1928
Most of our more important choices are made individually in our daily lives, our choices in consumption primarily. The election of our leaders simply codifies those more base choices. We elect those who make us feel good about our decisions….it’s not our fault, it’s the other guy. What we purchase, from whom and how much we borrow and who we borrow from are irrelevant and those who we elect confirm this. IT’S NOT OUR FAULT. And besides…everybody is doing it.
If, instead we actually had leaders who were honest with us, and could motivate us to actually act in our own best interests, it might work. And we could all celebrate once the year the murder of said leader, as he/she would inevitably be.
“The ultimate irony in this never-ending fake news saga is the US has meddled in far more elections and in far worse ways than probing DNC servers even if Putin was personally involved.”
Mish, I am shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, that you’d make such an accusation!

Salvador Guillermo Allende Gossens was a Chilean physician and politician, known as the first Marxist to become president of a Latin American country (1970-1973) through open elections.
The United States opposition to Allende started several years before he was elected President of Chile. Declassified documents show that from 1962 through 1964, the CIA spent $3 million in anti-Allende propaganda “to scare voters away from Allende’s FRAP coalition”, and spent a total of $2.6 million to finance the presidential campaign of Eduardo Frei.
In September 1970, President Nixon informed the CIA that an Allende government in Chile would not be acceptable and authorized $10 million to stop Allende from coming to power or unseat him. Henry Kissinger’s 40 Committee and the CIA planned to impede Allende’s investiture as President of Chile with covert efforts known as “Track I” and “Track II”; Track I sought to prevent Allende from assuming power via so-called “parliamentary trickery”, while under the Track II initiative, the CIA tried to convince key Chilean military officers to carry out a coup.
Additionally, some point to the involvement of the Defense Intelligence Agency agents that allegedly secured the missiles [later] used to bombard La Moneda Palace.
In early September 1973, Allende floated the idea of resolving the constitutional crisis with a plebiscite [a direct vote of all the members of an electorate on an important public question such as a change in the constitution]. His speech outlining such a solution was scheduled for 11 September, but he was never able to deliver it. On 11 September 1973, the Chilean military, aided by the United States and its CIA, staged a coup against Allende.
Just before the capture of La Moneda (the Presidential Palace), with gunfire and explosions clearly audible in the background, Allende gave his farewell speech to Chileans on live radio, speaking of himself in the past tense, of his love for Chile and of his deep faith in its future. He stated that his commitment to Chile did not allow him to take an easy way out, and he would not be used as a propaganda tool by those he called “traitors” (he refused an offer of safe passage), clearly implying he intended to fight to the end. Shortly afterwards, the coup plotters announced that Allende had committed suicide.

Mohammad Mosaddegh, was an Iranian politician. He was the head of a democratically elected government, holding office as the Prime Minister of Iran from 1951 until 1953, when his government was overthrown in a coup d’état aided by the United States’ Central Intelligence Agency and the United Kingdom’s Secret Intelligence Service.
Many Iranians regard Mosaddegh as the leading champion of secular democracy and resistance to foreign domination in Iran’s modern history. Mosaddegh was removed from power in a coup on 19 August 1953, organised and carried out by the CIA at the request of MI6, which chose Iranian General Fazlollah Zahedi to succeed Mosaddegh.
While the coup is commonly referred to in the West as Operation Ajax after its CIA cryptonym, in Iran it is referred to as the 28 Mordad 1332 coup, after its date on the Iranian calendar. Mosaddegh was imprisoned for three years, then put under house arrest until his death and was buried in his own home so as to prevent a political furor.

I think we now have irrefutable evidence that WaPo is a tool of a foreign power intending to overthrow the rightfully elected government of the United States.
Washington Post must be shut down, its editor arrested and charged with treason, and the employees disbanded if not charged as well.
This accusation business runs both ways — anyone including WaPo can be accused. Except the evidence against WaPo is much better than Trump or anyone else.
CLOSE WAPO. ARREST THE TREASONOUS EDITORS.
And now, do another swing down memory lane to this report, from the very excellent Zero Hedge blog, in a December 2016 headline: “The CIA, Washington Post, And Russia: What You’re Not Being Told.”
The story goes on to report how Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon who purchased The Washington Post in 2013 shortly after, clinched a $600 million contract with the CIA. The contract was supposed to be a deal for Mr. Bezos and his web-based business to build the CIA a private cloud for intel data.
But the conflict of interest rather face-slaps, doesn’t it? After all, The Washington Post does cover the CIA — particularly stories that cite the agency’s findings of Russian hacking activities, a topic that’s been particularly hot among the left of late.
And then there was this, from November in CNBC: “After learning the Washington Post reporters were looking into his past, Donald Trump railed against Amazon chief Jeff Bezos in a tweet storm.”
Mr. Bezos made nice — at least, surface nice — with Mr. Trump after the election, sending him congratulatory well-wishes in a tweet. But the point is this: Mr. Bezos did indeed sic his Post team on Mr. Trump.
That was then; this is now? Perhaps.
But there’s still a sour taste.

I don’t see very good odds of WaPo surviving long term. I know Woodward / Bernstein and All the Presidents Men and yadda yadda — but they never convicted Nixon, and years later there is still no evidence of Nixon’s involvement in Watergate (using the IRS like Obama / Hillary yes — but not Watergate).
Convicting a sitting president is not a trivial thing. Convicting both the current and previous Presidents? Not to mention all the members of the House Intelligence Committee? And dozens of CIA agents?
WaPo is screwed, and as publisher Bezos future is murky. We may never know if the Whole Foods / Amazon thing would have worked — there is a good chance WaPo’s misdeeds will drag Bezos into bankruptcy by the end of the year.
Laugh, but the odds of convicting Obama and Trump and House Intelligence members and …. are much lower than the odds of Bezos coming out of this in one piece
I thought the outcome of the famous Citizens United supreme court decision was that anyone with the cash to spend can spend any amount to influence elections. Russia has the cash so are they not entitled to spend it to support anyone furthering their interests. Doesn’t the same apply to the Saudis, Chinese, etc.
No investigation is needed since election meddling is declared legal already. If we don’t like that policy then change the law.
Foreign entities (like the ones that donated hundreds of millions to the Clinton Foundation) are not allowed to donate to election campaigns or to PACs.
As a Constitutional Law “scholar” and former Harvard Law Review editor — Obama knows this. If he had evidence that Trump was being supported by Russia, he had multiple legal obligations (see text of President’s oath of office, etc) to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help him God. And as a democrat, why wouldn’t Obama have released evidence against Trump to essentially hand the election to the escaped convict Hillary? Obama deserves to be ostracized by the democrats and to be executed for treason… unless of course there was no evidence.
The CIA agents who supposedly had info and supposedly “leaked” whatever to WaPo are covered under military law. Accusing an officer — especially accusing two Commanders in Chief (Obama and Trump) — of Treason is a big big big deal. CIA agents are going to end up in a military court (facing execution) for accusing an officer without grounds.
That’s the law, its been the law for a very long time — and seems quite a few CIA agents are soon to face a firing squad (unless you believe Obama tried to withhold evidence to help Trump).

Assuming that Putin was trying to control the election, how could he get the population of those states that voted for Trump to vote for Trump? Since the media was dead set on telling us that Clinton is ordained to the next POTUS, how could Putin influence the minds of some 61 million people? What communication mechanism did he use to hypnotize 61 million to vote for Trump?
If Putin indeed did this, we are all in grave danger. What’s to stop him from controlling the minds of European countries and China and India so that they all join the Russian bloc? How can we ever win any war ever again if he “communicates” to our soldiers to drop guns and surrender?
While we are on this topic, why did he not convince NYT, NPR, CNN, Wapo, ABC, NBC, and others to just give it up and go home? These outlets should examine themselves to figure out what it is that saved them from being drawn into Putin’s influence.
I suspect the only antidote to Putin’s magic control of the world is that of drinking from a golden chalice that is used to serve 500K$ wine to these reporters by a certain ordained one.
Since the rest of us are all under the “influence” of Putin, may be these outlets should stop trying to preach us and instead mail each of us a 500K$ bottle of wine and a golden chalice to drink from. Better yet, may be they can just mail a 5M$ wine bottle and a chalice to Putin and solve the problem altogether.
Come to think of it, if only the ordained one had sent each of us a 500K$ and the golden chalice to drink from, we would all have been brain dead like Wapo and voted for Clinton.
Also, since Bloomberg is questioning the DNC approach to thing, he probably never drank from the chalice.
Behold ‘the big lie’.
Putin was able to accomplish what he did because there are a lot of stupid people who are convinced they are clever. The comments on Mish’s blog prove this.

Pray tell – Please explain how stupid people commenting on my blog prove anything.
Jeff Bezos’ Blog, just like its NY copycat Carlos Slim’s blog have become so far distant from reality that it is embarrassing.
Another fake news story on the front page this morning. Apparently, Kushner borrowed money from Deutsche Bank and Deutsche bank has had dealings with unsavory Russians. What are the odds of both enterprises dealing with Europe’s largest bank?
